'Siyo friends:
This recording reflects the different aspects of my journey in this world & the different cultures I have encountered as I attempt to find out more about myself & who I truly am. It is a cross-over of two cultures, or two worlds, that I live within. In contrast of my previously
released cd, Voice From Within - which was a simple traditional concept, this cd is more an interweaving of the traditional & contemporary emotion. I've orchestrated many of the instruments that I have fallen in love with
over the past & found that the Native American flute fits nicely in both of these worlds. I would like to thank all the friendly & wonderful talent that so generously shared themselves on this recording. From my heart, Wa do....
A short review: "I was very glad to hear how well you fused together two cultures without taking away the integrity of either one. It was a perfect balance..."
ARTIST BIO: Michael Searching Bear is the owner/craftsman of Searching Bear Flutes. Michael is an accomplished musician who's love for music and search for his native heritage led him to the Native American Wood Flute. With over 35 years of experience and as a performance and studio musician, as a drummer and percussionist, Michael developed his talents and perfected his gift for mastering intricate rhythms.
He later learned, under the teachings of Kenneth Leonard, the electric, acoustic and classical guitars as well as music theory, history and ethnomusicology as a private student. With this knowledge, Michael desired to incorporate as many different types of instruments and backgrounds into his recording compositions - especially Native instruments. Michael began incorporating the flute into his music in 1996 and soon found that he desired to make them for himself. Of Cherokee and Powhatan descent, Michael desires to keep the craft alive and pass on the traditions of the flute. Nearly a lost art, the Native American Wood Flute is experiencing a resurgence in popularity. The haunting melodies and soothing tones have found a wide and accepting audience in today's hectic society. Michael's passion and interest has always been in the music arena. He is a perfectionist and feels it lends well to this craft. With this passion Michael has followed his heart and has begun teaching on the ancient methods,
as well as today's methods, of construction and uses of the flute in the Native ways of life. His informal classes are taught in a variety of settings and age groups.
From toddler day care centers to college level workshops to a variety of churches. Cooperation from many businesses has given Michael the opportunity to perform for an insightful lunch meditation time, to informative diverse cultural experiences at hospitals to other varying public groups and cultural gatherings. Michael lives in Ohio at present and has traveled throughout the country performing and educating on the Flute and the Native way of life. Michael not only makes these wonderful flutes but also performs for a variety of audiences. Michael has dedicated his life to educating and teaching his Native culture and using his expertise in the flute as a catalyst for this training. With the release of his CD, Voice From Within, Michael has been performing concerts to select locations all over the country. Un earthed is his second effort in this genre and has found a comfortable niche here.

Great Praise for Unearthed...
author: Eric Wolf WindseekerA congratulations on a fabulous job with "Unearthed". I am very glad to hear how well you fused together two cultures without taking away the integrity of either one. It was a perfect balance - two ages apart by hundreds of years, yet brought together in perfect harmony. The Vision and Mother Bear stand out, as I believe, the awesome potential of your music talent coupled with your deep interconnection with our native culture. As I heard The Vision, the haunting voices along with the rising musical panorama left me in shock and awe. I could not help to envision a story of struggle, change and growth. To which I later realized that the story behind this song was very much as I envisioned it. Mother Bear then stepped in to top-off the climax of the story, an amazing work. Your tireless dedication to our culture along with your musical talent is going to be well remembered long after this production. As stated earlier --it's timeless. Well done... Eric Wolf Windseeker
Terrific blend of traditional and contemporary music!
author: Tom KerrAcoustic guitar, bull roarer, didgeridoo...PLUS Michael Searching Bear on the Native American Flute??!!! Heck, I would have just taken Michael on the flute and Windwalker on the vocals and gladly forked over the dough...but you throw in those other wonderful (and amazingly complementary) instruments as well, done with grace and aplomb, and you've got a one-of-a-kind blend of contemporary and traditional sounds. Didn't think he could outdo his previous release "Voice Within". I was wrong!! Tom Kerr - Executive Director, Kulture Kids www.kulturekids.org
I have just found my new favorite art music cd!
author: Cynthia from Picture Rocks ArtGreetings! I just had to write: wow! What gems this cd has! Let me tell you, I have quite a collection of flute music by R. Carlos, & Spotted Eagle, etc. & I have just found my new favorite art music (I call it that because in order to keep my heart open while I work, I listen to music that brings light to me). It's you that brings life to your instruments! I am truly honored! Thank you! Again, awesome cd! Thanks for your gift! Sincerely, Cynthia
