notes

Combine great melodies with an arresting mastery of honest Midwestern language, and you have a picture of guitarist, singer and songwriter MICHAEL HEATON, a charismatic storyteller combining rock, country and folk styles into his own brand of music, which he calls Midwestern pop.

This new LIVE Cd came about as an accident of sorts. Originally the plan was to record the show for a DVD release. Unfortunately the video footage was useless. The bright side is that Michael and the band did get this new CD with a collection of some of the crowd favorites from his two previous solo releases. Included on the CD are cover versions of two big favorites at Heaton's shows. The first is the Del Reeves truck driving classic "Looking At The World Through A Windshield" and the second being the absolutely thunderous version of the Who's anthem "Won't Get Fooled Again".

In 1991, Heaton's first working band, The X-Tras, released KABOOM, a collection of a dozen of Heaton's songs. Later that same year he formed the power-pop trio Cut, and released two Heaton-penned projects, the self-titled debut, "Cut," and the band's swan song, "Rest In Pieces." After the break-up of Cut, Heaton began touring with Chicago's Irish favorites The Drovers as a member of their road crew and as a part time opening act. Striking out on his own, Heaton released his first solo album, LEARNING CURVE, on his own label, Artichoke Records, in the summer of 2000. Drawing on the energy of a successful first album, Heaton was anxious to get back into the studio. While recording his follow up album OUR LITTLE SECRET in 2003 at Moraine Studios and Musique Mediterranee in Nashville, Tennessee, Heaton had the pleasure of recording with some of Nashville's "A" list talents. Backing Heaton were great musicians like drummer Eddie Bayers (credited on over 150 Gold and Platinum releases), mandolin virtuoso Sam Bush, and bass master Dave Pomeroy (James McMurtry, Mose Allison, Elton John). OUR LITTLE SECRET was coproduced by guitarist/producer Pat Bergeson (Lyle Lovett, Chet Atkins, Allison Kraus) and award-winning producer/engineer Jim McKell (Kenny Rogers, The Judds).

Michael Heaton's music has appeared in films and radio shows across the United States. Heaton appeared in the 1995 motion picture "The Homecoming" where his band performed at the homecoming dance. The 2000 independent release "Under the Bus" featured Michael and his band performing "Silver Lining" and "In the End" from his CD LEARNING CURVE. Heaton's song "Smells Like Gasoline" was used on the syndicated radio show "Racing Tonight" and currently, "Nashville Saturday Night Guitar Pull" is using "The Good Times" as their theme music. Supported by Stan Dembowski on lead guitar, Derek Feiza on drums and Doug Wielert on bass guitar, Michael Heaton and his band are in constant demand, performing nearly 200 shows a year.
