notes

Mercury Sol is electronic music for people that don't usually like electronic music. Combining elements of rock, hip-hop, jazz, funk, old-skool, and trip-hop - the debut album, "3000 Miles From Boston" takes you on a sonic joyride through the electronic landscape.

Grounded far deeper in Rock N' Roll than in electronic club culture, Scott Parent cut his teeth playing guitar and singing in indie bands throughout Boston in the 90's. After relocating to Southern California in 2001, Scott built a studio and started collecting sounds and samples that would eventually make up the structure for 3000 Miles From Boston. After whittling through a creative process that yielded nearly 40 songs (in various stages), 12 were chosen for the album. Featuring an array of live instruments (guitar, drums, bass, percussion, horns) and a heap of electronic synths, samples, turntable tricks, and some obscure vocal samples, 3000 Miles From Boston is quite simply... funky dance music with a rock attitude.

Individual songs from "3000 Miles From Boston" are also available online at: Apple iTunes, Napster, BuyMusic.com, Sony Connect, EMEPE3, QTRnote, CatchMusic, and RuleRadio.

  • I was blown away. The sh#t is GOOD!
author: Q*Ball (Nationally Known Electro-Pop Artist)

Mercury Sol achieves a DJ sensibility throughout the record that I have yet to achieve on any of my own albums. It is consistently groovy. “Get Down With Yo’ Bad Self” & “Ultraviolence” recall an ‘Everything Is Wrong’-era Moby, when he was still more ecologically conscious club DJ than nerd genius. But that doesn’t make those songs sound dated, either. “Moonlight In Spain” & “Straight Trippin’ (Boo)” are electro-soul heaven, reminiscent of French club music. But the biggest compliment I can give ‘3000 Miles From Boston’ is how smoothly it flows from beginning to end. A club DJ could put the album in his dual deck & go grab a vanilla frappucinno for the next hour (get this mother pressed onto vinyl, Scott!). The bass sounds are rich, the beats are solid, & the production is impressive. I’m totally envious of the final track, “Mind Melt,” especially – the beautiful string sounds that encompass the intro, the subtlety of the thumping beat & the jazzy vibes. This is pure nighttime cruise music at its best.

  • Very original, engrossing, involving, and fun.

A very original sound that I found very exciting and fun. Highly recommended!

  • Mercury Sol offers up an album similar in vein to The Chemical Brothers and Prod
    author: J-Sin (Smother.net)

Funky spastic bass opens things off boosting the chances that this will be a dance-a-minute. Produced with the intention of presenting electronic music in such a way to get people who normally don’t dig electronic music into it, “3000 Miles From Boston” hits the proverbial nail on the head. Effortlessly blending elements of hip-hop, funk, jazz, and rock, Mercury Sol offers up an album similar in vein to The Chemical Brothers and Prodigy. Get your funk on. J-Sin

  • This CD rocks. Great for cruising in the car!
    author: Chris (Thousand Days)

This CD has everything. Fast jams and beats, and slower tracks with orchestration. My favorite tune is "Hands In the Air" which is like an Anthem song for going out to party. Great Stuff!!

  • A great mix of samples, loops, and instrumentation!

Definitely a good listen. Well produced and unique. This CD will please club-goers and rockers alike. Christopher - editor@indieshout.com

  • Enter the world of electronic rock with 3000 Miles From Boston!
    author: Brandon Mitchell

Wow! At first I did not know what to expect when this CD ended up in my hands. I had heard Scott's music from his rock and roll days in Boston and was really interested to hear the new direction he was venturing into with Mercury Sol and specifically "3000 Miles from Boston." Since receiving the CD about four days ago, I have not been able to change the CD player in the car. Each time I listen I get more caught up in the beats and samples and lock onto something different. It's amazing how he was able to cram so much into each track...and that is not a bad thing...the songs are tight! The time and effort that was put into this effort really shows track after track. With spring and summer right around the corner, this CD is in the running to be the anthem for the "Summer of Mitchell"!
