Album Notes

Mercurochrome is Brian Stegeman, Duke Smith, Laura Robinson and David Umbenhour. This eclectic group of musicians pulls from three generations, varied life experiences and a deep and true fascination of all things musical. Their musical influences are all over the board from Velvet Crush to Kiss to Arcade Fire to Gillian Welch and encompasses the nostalgia of band members who grew up in the glam and punk rock of the seventies, the jangly pop of the eighties and the remergence of raw rock in the nineties. The band formed in the fall of 2004 and immediately emerged with a sound to stop and pay attention to. Their blend of thoughtful lyrics, feel good energy and driving guitar grooves attract crowds of music enthusiasts of all kinds. They’ve played gigs with established Cincinnati acts such as Staggering Statistics, Wussy, Culture Queer, Spectacular Fantastic and out of town bands Hockey Night (Minneapolis) the High Strung (New York), Shapes and Sizes (Vancouver, Canada) and Jason Lytle of Grandaddy. This self described “polite group of rockers” puts on a great live show and has become a popular act to play with. Their debut cd “Is That What They Want” has ten songs that showcase their broad range of musical interests. This cd is sure to garner additional attention for the band. It was produced and engineered by John Curley (former bass player of the Afghan Whigs) at UltraSuede Studios, in Cincinnati, Ohio.
