It hardly is, ha ha!
Please enjoy the following selections:
Girl Lunar Explorer-
Inspired by the satellite Gallileo's explorations of Saturn's moon, Titan.
Warbots-
A true story of weapons inventors and the evil within.
Sky is Falling-
A foot-stamping collage of catastrophic disaster.
Border Village-
This is how life is for them there.
Krakatowa-
A tale of Polynesian spite and revenge.
American Girl-
Tom Petty? Tom Petty.
Itinerant Airship-
Take one measure from West Side Story's "Somewhere". Add 4 cellos and the Pitcairnian Women's Chorus. Rinse and repeat.

great
author: CillaI can't believe I went this long without this CD. I love it! If you are a Rasputina fan, you should definitely listen to this album..
- author: Farson
The mysteries of the universe are solved with this CD.
Beautiful and full of mystery...
author: SheenaI have been listening to her album non-stop for weeks now. It's delicate and full of stories you will want to hear over and over again.
Never have I so wished to be a cello!!!!!
author: BabycakesThis album is Magically Delicious! And a new Rasputina album coming out soon...I am a'flutter and a'flitter with glee. :)
A brilliant CD, you won't be disappointed!
author: PerplexionsThis is a wonderful appetiser for the long awaited "Oh, Perilous World!" album from Rasputina. Once again Melora has developed the songs and CDs in quite a different direction from their previous CDs, but then I think Rasputina fans would expect this!! This is a really fun, catchy CD with some great rhythms, lyrics and of course melodies, and my two favourite songs would have to be Girl Lunar Explorer (beautiful, melancholy) and Krakatowa. I've heard mixed reviews about Krakatowa, with some inebriates describing the sound of the dulcimer as "grating." However I've found Krakatowa to have a great story, and the way Melora changes her voice for the characters is amazing. WONDERFUL album! Buy it! You won't be disappointed!
A lovely collection of songs. A delight. Exactly what I was hoping it would be.
author: DeirdreThis collection of songs was soft and delightful. Girl Lunar Explorer is great. Probably my favorite. And American Girl is an interesting cover. The cello sounds amazing. Inspiring and airy, its a good companion for an artist at work.
Absolutely fantastic!
author: GaryGirl Lunar Explorer is by far the best piece Melora has ever composed. If this were simply a one-track CD of that song, I'd be telling you all to buy it anyway. The fact that it features on a CD with 7 other equally brilliant songs is just the icing on the cake. The best CD I've bought all year! On constant rotation since it arrived. Thanks CDbaby!
Incredible disc
author: poohedfukThe version of American Girl is amazing in itself and the rest of the album is just as good. You always got the vibe that Rasputina was Melora's brainchild and this record pretty much proves it. My girfriend and I got to meet her, she's really nice.
Love!
author: RThis album is in heavy rotation. I love it!
I bought it for my boyfriend and he was extatic!
author: judithLove it! It's a really great cd.
Melora is God
author: mizbelleI will buy anything Melora touches. She is an amazing musical monster. Warbots is my favorite from this disc. Love it, love it, love it!
flip gizzle giggly buns
author: taralieLove it!
Simply lovely....
author: Kristenbut a little short. When I finished listening, it left me wanting more songs like "Girl Lunar Explorer" and "Warbots." But overall, I think it's worth picking up for any Rasputina fan, especially for the flawless Tom Petty cover. ^^
Awesome
author: Gus HernandezThis cd is wonderful. It's full of mystery, intrigue and natural disasters. It is sure to delight young and old...tall or short....thin or fat. You must buy!
This is one of those albums that will become an underground classic.
author: KitttyPuss333This is SO what I've been waiting for. Melora's voice really lets go, it makes it so personal, You know, just you and her singing in your bedroom together~~~~~~~Just two American Girls.
awesome!!!
author: emilyawesome cd!!! but its melora so of course it is awesome....
In like a lion, out like a hungry lion.
author: Morpheus LyricThis CD serves as a delicious appetizer for Rasputina's upcoming EP. While some might complain about its modest length, it should be expected that all but the most out of touch fans will realize that like "The Lost and Found" before it, this is a sweet teaser built to tide us over for a bit so Melora and crew can muscle out the next heavy hitter. The disc starts strong with "Girl Lunar Explorer", a poetic and adventurous song that would be warmly welcomed on any full length album. The second track, "Warbots," careens off the track at a ninety degree angle lyrically, but somehow maintains the engrossing musical style seen throughout the disc. "Sky is Falling," an apocalyptic narrative, essentially ends the album on a high note, as much of the remainder is quite forgettable, which is somewhat a shame as it may leave a good deal of Celloheads somewhat disappointed. In contrast, encouraging a healthy appetite for more, all the while staving off starvation, proves to be a generous and thoughtful endeavor. Although the remainder is quite listenable, "Krakatowa" and the finisher "Itinerant Airship," while interesting, might make one feel as if they have tracks like "Nozzle" (Thanks for the Ether), "Christian Soldiers" (How We Quit the Forest) or "My Captivity by Savages" (Frustration Plantation) all on repeat. I don't know about you, but, charming at first ("PJ + Vincent & Mathew + Bjork") these are the tracks I generally skip during a full listen-through of any particular Raspy album. "Border Village," the fourth track and quazi-song, reminds me uncannily of many of he more musically inspired {¿incompleted?} fillers I've experienced in the past: "Sister Sleep" (TFTE), "Mayfly" (HWQTF); or more polished segues like "Clipped" (CF), "Doomsday Averted" and, but not limited to, "Endomorph" (TFTE). Finishing up with a cover song is always nice, and "American Girl" is a suitable piece to add to the collection, but it does little to improve the incoherence of the remaining crumbs (that an eccentric, nay insane airplane pioneer would insist be returned immediately to the refrigerator) of an incomplete solo project. Overall and even as I "bash" the descent that is immediately apparent in the weaker, latter half of "Perplexions," there's more than enough endearing content here to at least keep us stumbling along towards the ambiguous release of what I believe to be called "Thursday's Christian": the next no doubt brilliant masterpiece that so many of us long for, particularly after snapping the larger portion of a wishbone clean off, and accidentally begging the dead chicken's baked remains for something as selfish and silly as victory in Iraq. I give this album a three. Do not consider this a complaint... I merely figure that this way I can tack the points onto the next Raspy album without seeming too fishy. 8/5 and people just think I'm a huge fan. 10/5 and people start noticing that I'm simply not all that good with numbers. A true must-have for any Rasputina fan, do not miss this one while you can still get it. Its flaws are poised only to sharpen our fangs and whet our already carnal appetite. An appetite for thick, taut strings stretched across the solid wooden chest of our seductress' weapon of choice. Now go and fcvking get it. Rapidos!!!
Must have for die-hard Rasputina fan
author: janetI have to admit that although I love Melora and all of her work, I was a little bit disappointed with this CD. I guess that I expected this album to be a bit more personal than Rasputina, or to have more differing elements in it, but really, it's completely the same kind of music, she just decided to do it herself. I expected there to be more of a reason that she wanted to do it herself (i.e. make it different), but really I just think she wanted to make music alone, not necessarily make any other statement than what Rasputina already does. That being said, I love the CD. I absolutely love her unique voice and lyrics and arrangements of songs. I was just expecting something above and beyond what I've already heard. If you're a diehard Rasputina fan, like me, it's a must have though.
A must have !!
author: AngieA must have for any rasputina/melora fan! i got this cd after hearing it on this website and really enjoy it. i dont think its as great as rasputina as a whole but definetly worth getting! her cover of tom pettys american girl and warbots are the greatest!
My heart beats for the beauty of her cello
author: KaitlynEach song is as beautiful as Melora's voice. Even the Tom Petty cover reached new heights coming from her. I just can not stop listening to it *Insert Clapping* my heart is a flutter
What could you say
author: AaronShe constantly blows my mind out of my head, then delicately reattaches it after filling it with wonderful odd worlds and stories. She's a fay Queen and long may she reign!
Melora, the Goddess of Music
author: HollyWhen I get a new CD, I will not like it for a year. I have to listen to the music over and over for that long until I begin to like it. Rasputina is the exception. It usually takes me about a month with their CDs. This solo Melora project, well, it took only 3 listens. It is such a great CD! It’s a lot like Rasputina’s “Frustration Plantation” so it is very easy to love right off the bat. Melora really did a superb job putting this all together with such little help. And it is also great that she and Jonathon TeBeest couldn’t help but to collaborate for this solo project as he does the piano on the track “Girl Lunar Explorer.” It’s a wonderful CD that every Rasputina fan should own, as well as the non-Rasputina fans. This CD only proves how truly amazing Melora Creager is.
Transcendent!
author: AntebelleThis CD is such a wonderful creation! Melora has an uncanny ability to create such fantastic imagery! I am left wanting more!
Skookum!
author: Danger GirlFabulous. I was only slightly apprehensive that a solo release might be more stripped-down or bare than Frustration Plantation, which I completed adored. I needn't have fraught, though, because Melora delivers a rich, diverse, layered masterpiece that only leaves me wanting more. Where can I find the lyrics, and when will she be touring to support this? I can't wait!
OMG! Amazing! Best album ever!
author: HopeyOMG! Amazing! Best album ever! For Real!
Sweet!
author: SalineAwesome CD. It's really grown on me, and the songs get stuck in my head. It's exactly what a solo CD should be like; Not a drastic change, just more subtle and personal. Beautiful Music, I was not dissapointed. Melora is amazing!
Really Great CD! A+A+ I LOVED IT!
author: Michael FordAlways thrilled to have new Rasputina material, and Melora Creager is an artistic genius, who creates without fear! She's an inspiration and makes amusing, thought-provoking songs and there will never be a day when I don't wish for a new album, either performing as Rasputina, or solo. I LOVE YOU MELORA!! YOU ROCK!!!!!
Perfect.
author: AmandaAs always, Melora was perfect. I have never been disappointed with a Rasputina album and the same stands for Melora Creager. Do yourself a favor. BY THIS ALBUM!
Just buy this (or kick yourself later).
author: burnsyThis record deserves more than 5 stars! It's a real treasure. Melora is astounding,as always. This little gem will help make the wait for the next Rasputina release bearable. Features a lot more of her dulcimer playing than Rasputina's stuff. She does a Tom Petty song. What more could you ask for?
- author: Bree
This cd is great!True to Melora form,a lovely collection of fun and interesting songs...love it!
Wonderful!!!!
author: PatrickGreat Lyrics,Excellent Melody and Wonderful Vocals
Brilliant solo album!
author: Lucien DesarWhat is not to like about Melora? She's quite the mavin when it comes to cello and singing. If you like Rasputina you will love this album. I see this album as a prelude to the last Rasputina album that was released. Buy it love it yada yada . Nice job Melora!
Neatsauce.
author: MengThe CD is fantastic. There wasn't a single song that I would skip. My personal favourite are the first and third song. Great job, I'd love to hear more!
super duper good
author: mellyif ya like rasputina, you'll love this cd. some songs were very soft sounding and reminded me of rasputina's old stuff. other songs were more experimental, which was good too. my fave song have to be the first one. i loved the piano accompaniment.
A reason not to kill myself
author: Ali IqtidarPerplexions kicks ass. The moment I heard the two minute clip of Warbots, I knew I had to have this CD, so I stole my dad's credit card and ordered it off the internet. My personal favourite song is Warbots, though all the tracks are generally awesome. Oh, and I like Girl Lunar Explorer quite a bit too; it reminds me of "Ground Control To Major Tom".
Amazing! Thank you Melora
author: Mouse (a.k.a.) Steven nanceI absolutely love it. I just wish there were more tracks. Short though it may be it was well worth the money.
Melora is my favorite cello-rocker in the entire universe!
author: Andrew R ClackLOVE IT SO MUCH!!!
author: AllisonEverything Melora touches turns to musical gold. She's my hero.
Absolutely lovely
author: EricExcellent album...eclectic...graceful...rockin'...as usual. Inspires a panoramic view.
Great!
author: EnerGreat! Awsome! Perfect! Lovely! Melora!
- author: LasseM
Cellos, bizarre stories, vau-de-ville-smoked art-rock, femme fatalic singers .... it's Rasputina allright - UNSURPASSED
Very good
author: brandon.Nice album. I actually had no idea it was out! Great piece of work, but I still enjoy the old Rasputina albums(pre-Frustration Plant).
well, I liked it
author: Amandathe only reason this cd didn't get a five is because i felt it was a bit too short. (but then i think that of the 13 song cd's rasputina has put out also)but yes, great job, melora, keep up the work, can't wait to hear more from you!
you know the kind of music that gives you goosebumps?
author: borgreally beautiful all the way around, that voice and the cello combined and then mixed with sometimes really dark lyrics,,, jus listen to it, really unique, thanx fer all yer hard work melora!
The Inspiration
author: ZootsThis disc shows that Melora has been the inspiration behind Rasputina. She has worked with others to get that inspiration, so I was curious how about this "solo" effort (I put "solo" in quotations because she works on this disc with Jonathon). What this disc shows is her wit, musicality, and that her muse is alive and well. Cello on, dear Melora!
Melora has musical moles...
author: CordMelora Creager is musical, whimsical, artisticle, mystical, and she wears her meat-suit with little concern for psychic malevolence as she is a rockstar of ethereal proportions. I highly recommend this CD.
Get Ted Turner on the line.... I have a great idea!
author: Seth DrallitocCNN should hire Melora to read all their news... I might actually sit through coverage of world disasters if Melora was there telling us all about it with her cello. A great album almost spoiled by the fact that it ends far too soon... Although that's why the gods gave us the repeat function on our cd players.
I used to be a princess you know
author: Belle MorteNot since Thanks for the Ether have I fell so in love with an album. It sounds like Melora had a lot of fun on this recording. The lyrics are stronger than ever. The melodies and hooks will latch onto you like a leech.
in short, I love it
Even if it took 2 listens to grow on me. Now I sing along exuberantly as I bicycle along the wastelands. Sky is Falling is my favorite track.
lovly indeed
author: zane wileythank you! this was for my gorgious wife kai and she has listened to it continually since she got it.
Great stuff!
author: CRI love this CD. Really intimate, highlights Melora's beautiful voice. Just might make the wait for the next Rasputina album more bearable.
GOLLY !!!!!
author: Jon JonOh what can I say... It's simply stunning, beautiful, amazing!!! I love this CD soooo much. I listen to it over and over. The last song gives me chills. Thank you Melora!!!
perfect as always
author: Jennifer MessnerI always buy malora's music and have been following rasputina everywhere. This CD Perplexions is everything I was hoping it would be. As a cello player the music is beautiful to hear and melora's voice is a bit more clear in this album then the rasputina cds. Keep up the great work and I look forward to more solo albums along with all other music she produces. thanks again.
Great stuff but not long enough.
author: nathanMelora does it again with another wonderful installment into her "perplexing" repetoire. Every song is very good. Her version of "American Girl" drags a little bit, but I could be thinking that because I love how upbeat the original is. Keep up the good work Miss Creager and I can't wait for the next installment.
amazing
author: PascalIt's a perfect cd to make us wait for the next real LP. You HAVE to buy it, it's just too good!
Love you Melora!
author: KimI've only briefly listened to each song as the CD came today but I already love it.. so unique and quirky, just like our Melora.. *muwah*
Oodles of perlexing goodness.....
author: DarkGold stars abound! Melora Creager outdoes her self in this almost neo-old school Rasputinaesque masterpiece. Perplexing? A little. Glorious? Utterly. Buy it. NOW.
Basically, Melora at her best.
author: PhillipHer songwriting has really improved. She's really developed a unique vocal style that moves me. I think the cello takes backseat to the vocals on this record. She howls, growls, yowls, shrieks, and is just plain cute through a lot of this. Her trill is irresistible. Standout tracks are definitely, definitely "Girl Lunar Explorer" and "Sky is Falling." Those are like, two of the best songs she has ever written. It's not really very goth. It's sort of folky. It almost sounds like something by Joanna Newsom, which is definitely a good comment in my eyes.
awesome
author: johnyep I like the recording a lot and listen to it a lot. Where can I get a jet pack so I can fly high over a pepsi can ?
great work Melora!!! wish there was more!!!
author: rick mccMelora is God. fin.
author: AngiePantsAnother wonderful creation from God herself. ok maybe she isn't god, but this cd, if any, would definantly convince you that she is god...if she were that is. This cd isn't like every other cd melora/rasputina has done. it does have trademark qualities, but it also has a whole new feel to it. it rules.
wheee!
author: Kelly Q.love it! i just wish it were a bit longer, but it's 20 minutes of pure bliss.
Awesome
author: adaMGreat, no more needs to be said! GET IT! well except that
- author: Angeleena
I literally cannot stop listening to this CD, nor can I pick a favorite song from it. Melora's genius shines through in every single track. On my first listening, I thought that it sounded a little less polished than most of the Rasputina songs I'm used to hearing, but after a couple of repeats I realized that her lyrics were so characteristically charming that it didn't matter. This CD is pure love. I only wish it was longer!
This CD sounds great: Melora Creager rocks out on the cello!
author: 12/22/2006This CD sounds great. Melora Creager rocks out on the cello as the front women of the band Rasputina and now she is showing us (her fans) that she can work that same magic flying solo. So far, I have only heard clips of this new work via the web. I truly can not wait until my order arrives.
Cello Rock! and dulcimers too...
author: AshleyThis cd is absolutly wonderful. Its nice to see a Melora only project that is based on her own compositions instead of just a cd of covers (although I love the Lost and Found). Girl Lunar Explorer, Sky is Falling and American Girl are the top tracks on this album. And a new Raspy cd is supposedly coming out next year.
Brilliant!
author: TheMadTerran. . . In anycase Perplexions is a tiny deviation from her former works with Rasputina, although it's clearly from the same body of work. Same clever lyrics. Same interesting beats. A bit of a content change. Incidentally the cd also contains a cover of Tom Petty's American Girl. :) It's lovely.
Always impressed with the results.
author: AjeMelora Creager's Perplexions really impressed me, it (at least for me) showed the evolution of Melora as a song writer and composer. I don't think anyone would be disappointed with this album.
A CD by any other name...
author: RULER OF PLANET EARTHThis CD finally confirms what the faithful have always known. Rasputina is Melora Creager! This is the perfect CD to take along whether you're time traveling, or just relaxing around the universe. I've earned $1,000,000.00 a day after only listening to Melora's music for one week, and I'm (a real person) not a paid actor. Buy it NOW, and add years to your life! The aforementioned endorsements may not be applicable in most cases, but I can promise you that Melora Creager is a genius, and that this (her solo CD) is truly amazing!
beautiful, interesting, and witty
author: ginaperplexions is fantastic- a welcome addition to the rasputina/melora musical library. "sky is falling" almost sounds like a quicker 19th century folk song and "girl lunar explorer" is gorgeous. if you're wondering whether you should buy this, the answer is yes, immediately.
Rasputina fans will not be disapointed!
author: Raul OdinI love this CD! It contains an eclectic mix of music styles while maintaining the general feel I expect from classic Rasputina. Sky is Falling & Krakatowa alone make this a worth while CD! I only wish there was MORE material!!!
Very Sweet from Madame Bastard
author: SkyeOne thing only: YAY Melora!!! Okay, two things: More! MORE! More! Thank You.
Another delicious bite of cello-y goodness
author: BrendanEvolution, not revolution. The name may be solo, but the music evokes Rasputina imagery from days past. You could probably slip this cd in with Ether and not too many eyebrows would get raised. In Melora's case, this is not a bad thing. Her signature sound is one that seems to be well beloved by her fans, and she certainly delivers. I found her usual mix of chaos and cellos to be a welcome addition to my cd library.
This cd showcases Melora's skills and knowledge
author: AbsynthiaAfter only having it for a week, I already have favorite tracks. Why does she not only choose the best songs, but her covers of songs are flawless, and I end up enjoying her versions more than the original artists. I always feel like I'm breaking a music law when I say that, but melora's covers are the best. Here's to the artists that Melora loves!
Awesome as expected !
author: BluRasputina fans will not be the least bit disappointed in Melora's solo EP. Its perfect... Perfectly Rasputina !
Brava!!
author: SherryWonderful woman, as always. This is a piece of art that everyone needs in their collection. Thank you mamma
It gets better with each listen.
author: JixPerplexions seems, in many ways, like a throwback to Rasputina's Thanks For The Ether. But I would argue that, due to its instrumentation and subject matter, it is definitely evolutionary in scope. But it also still draws inspiration from history (such is Melora and Rasputina). Since HWQTF's "Watch T.V." we have not heard piano in any release (save "Yellow Fever" on FP's bonus disc), and no dulcimer at all aside from "Doomsday Averted" (FP). I like the Melora is exploring new instruments in her music, and subject matter that strays from the strictly historical. Evolution always; she only gets better. Also, her cover is awesome.
Love It!
author: SusanMelora Rocks! Just when you think it can't get any better.... Melora proves you wrong. A must have for all fans!
- author: belljar
The wild woman of ultra alternative rock does it again thank the deity. Another Creager record to help expland your limited consciousness.
This is why I started listening in the first place.
author: ChipI have to say that this new edition to the Rasputina family is whole-heartedly welcome. It really is like a throw back to Ether, for all those that know that album. In a world full of junk called music that really isn't, Melora Creager represents all that is good and right, and what should be about music.
i want it!
author: jordanIve only heard the samples from this site, but i think everything ms. creager does is completely amazing, and these samples sound like they could be some of her best work, im just getting mad right now, cause itunes finally posted this cd and i cant order it because they are having problems right now. GIIRR!!
sheer, utter, and complete mastery
author: Cannibal Rose CreationsMy skullcap has been blown off and is now being used for a candy dish thanks to Ms Melora. Every single Rasputina cd ranks in my list o' All Time Favorite Music, but Perplexions takes me back to my first rapturous Raspy throes. This harkens to Thanks For The Ether -- before quirky subtlety was lost to Melora's amp pedal. Ohhh this is sheer bliss. Buy it or forever be deprived.
