notes
In summer of 1998, Mello-D released his first full length LP entitled, Backsliding. Backsliding is one of the hottest albums on Virginia's underground hip-hop scene and became very popular in Australia and Canada. The music video for "The Illest Rhyme Ripper" introduced Mello-D & the Rados to hiphop heads worldwide.
In 2002, with the release of the second album, The Ultimate Truth, Mello-D & the Rados had a bit more of the national spotlight shone on them. The lead single, "Keep On", burned college radio airwaves nationwide and debuted in the top 20 on most major national music charts and climbed up to #2 on the HITS Radio charts! Along with the growing success of "Keep On", MDR has also released a video for the second single "Stupid Jerk" which features comedian T.L . Fitz (Comic View, Apollo) and has been seen on BET, MHZ Networks and other national video programs.
In 2003, Mello-D created ImaginationInc.org. A website dedicated exclusively to promote DC area live hip-hop bands and to create a movement towards live instrument hip-hop music. He says "The idea is that live hip-hop needs its own identity seperate and unique from the neo-soul and spoken word scenes with which it is often grouped. I'm trying to make this live hip-hop movement into a national and even worldwide phenomena that will last beyond the next pop trend or radio cycle".
Meanwhile, Mello-D & the Rados continue to perform up and down the East Coast, packing venues in New York, DC, Pennsylvania, VA and North Carolina... the band is well respected nationwide internationally having toured Brazil and England in 2004.
Mello-D has graced the stage with such popular acts as KRS-ONE, Jill Scott, Cocoa Brovas, Poor Righteous Teachers, and he has played with jazz legends like Charlie Hampton, Herb Smith, Barry Harris, George Coleman and Clark Terry. Mello-D has even gotten down with Rock bands like Carbon Leaf and Weekend Excursion.
Mello-D's primary mission is to bring back the real talent and creativity that was exemplified by the many great artists of the past. He has made concentrated effort to make songs that are relevant in today's world because there is "already too much meaningless music in the public eye."
Mello-D & the Rados takes this brand of hip-hop to a level seldom reached by many artists...and this is only the beginning!!!

A breath of fresh air!
author: Craig Butler"The Ultimate Truth" is a very refreshing hip-hop album. It's straight up dope! Mello-D is one of the illest emcees I've heard in a minute and the band is off the hook. I even like the guest artists featured on the album. This is one of those records that you can just put on and let it play from start to finish without skipping over anything. All the songs are tight and they are not redundant. They all sound different from each other and the album as a whole sounds different than anything anybody else is doing. I look forward to hearing more from this group.
