notes
"Avignon", the debut album from singer Melissa Fahn, fuses jazz, pop, R & B, and folk into a unique whole that has been described as "Norah Jones singing with Sting and Steely Dan".
Born into a family of jazz musicians - her father Michael is a drummer, and her oldest brother Mike a trombonist - Melissa has a long and illustrious resumé as an actor, voiceover artist, and session vocalist. While still active as a theatrical performer (she is an original member of the Broadway musical "Wicked", and a featured vocalist on the Grammy-winning cast album), this recording marks her fullest and most personal statement.
The nine songs on "Avignon" make up a song cycle that takes the listener on a dynamic and intimate journey - at times introspective, dreamy, soulful, exuberant, and exotic, the music tells the story of a woman looking at the tapestry of her life and finding her own voice.
"Avignon" was produced by Melissa's husband Joel Alpers, who plays drums and percussion on the album, and features a stellar cast of musicians, including keyboardist Justin Reinhardt, guitarists Chris Clermont and Jamie Findlay, bassists Derek Frank, Dan Lutz, and Zac Matthews, horn players Lee Thornburg and Mike Todd, vocalist Rob Trow, and family members Mike Fahn and Mary Ann McSweeney on trombone and bass, respectively.

A brilliant first album, worth every penny.
author: JaxAs a long time fan of Melissa Fahn's, I'd been looking forward to this album for quite a while. And I'm very pleased to say that i was not disappointed. From beginning to end, this album is not only filled with beautiful music, but also weaves a beautiful story. I'd try to pick a favorite song but all nine of them are too great to pick from! The album is a fantastic mix of jazz and pop... sort of a blend of Corinne Bailey Rae and Norah Jones. Absolutely beautiful! Keep it up, Melissa!!!! ^_^
fantastic singer, great tunes, great players

Melissa's vocals have a very special thing going on - pure tone, perfect intonation, and lots of soul. The songwriting and production is top-notch, and the moods vary a lot. Shiny Sexy & Sharp.
author: RandomRobMelissa Fahn's vocals are carefree and disarmingly sexy, and the musicianship and arrangements are thoroughly on-point throughout this CD, as is the PC multimedia- great B&W photos of Melissa in the studio, and some other cool stuff. 'Making the Saint' and 'Avignon' really stand out. Smooth stuff!
