notes
This songwriter and mother of four, who lives a stones throw from the town she grew up in, doesn't fit into any stereotype. She's garnered comparisons to Lucinda Williams, Bruce Springsteen, Dashboard Confessional, and Roseanne Cash. Her songs, as solid as Georgia oak, are played and sung with an emotional grit under the nails that comes from digging in life's mundane and less illuminated holes. These songs grab you with Lori's signature strident, soulful, and unapologetic vocals sharing earnest observations and stories of growing up and growing old, of loves and losses, winners and losers, guns and god, and drinkers and dreamers in a town that is resting uncomfortably between its blue collar roots and modern suburbia. Incapable of artifice, Lori McKenna speaks of the bitter and the sweet, but doesn't simply write songs, she documents her life, and in turn ours, in word and melody. Meet Lori McKenna and welcome to Bittertown

Singer-Songwiter Defined
author: souldadI am so impressed with this offering form Lori Mckenna. What an amazing song writer. I have tracked down most of her material since finding out about her. I am speechless. This woman deserves to be a household name.
LOVE IT!
author: SarahSince I ordered this album, I haven't stopped listening to it. IF YOU ASK was the best song i've heard in along time. MUCH better done on her own, although Faith Hill and Sara Evans do a great job on them as well!
lori mckenna is 'the gold standard' as singer/songwriter artist . .
author: joe waters www.newcolonyrecords.coma treasure trove of original tunes - well crafted & delivered with heart, wit & intensity - thanks carrie webber for turning me onto great music . .

Amazing artist and album.
Lori Mckenna is truly an amazing artist. She will honestly change the way you think about folk music. She's amazing, best writer and singer i've heard in a long time.
astonishing
author: bennettfolk.comProbably the best songwriter out there today. And the voice just escalates her to a rare place. Simply a gem. Jason Bennett bennettfolk.com
AMAZING!!!
author: NicoleBittertown has not left my cd player for a month now! I replay it over and over..i know every word to every song now. My favorites are Bible Song and Lone Star. I can't wait to buy her previous albums..they are really hard to find here in Dallas for some reason. :( I recommend this to any and EVERYONE!
Aptly titled
author: Andy MuldoonGood cd. Title describes cds overall mood. Can easily relate to a number of tracks and the whole feel of this cd is personal experience. May become better than mid rate but will require more listening. My first purchase of this artist and it will definately not be my last
Great CD - Great Buy!
author: MollyI found out about Lori through Melissa Ferrick's website and am so excited about her newest cd - the whole cd is a great performance and I will definitely be buying more of her stuff!
Great CD - going to see her at a coffee house tomorrow night
author: SusanThis was the first time I purchased a CD by Lori Mckenna. I enjoyed it so much that I got a group of my friends together to see her play at a coffee house. I'm looking forward to listening to her in person.
Another wonderful record.
author: JohnI heard about Lori McKenna on a review on NPR. I ordered both of her previous CD's as soon as the review was over. Bittertown is a wonderful record and as good as the others. The lyrics in One Man and Lone Star will put you back in high school. Her songs on this CD are so effective in creating a certain feel or mood.

I couldn't find it in de cd shops here! I really want the album, but when i have to buy it on the internet it's much more expensive (shipping costs). So i guess i will wait a while and search again in the local shops here. I've heard a few songs.. beautiful.
Great lyrics from a voice of experience!
author: Kathy GreenholdtMcKenna speaks from the heart about what really matters in a woman's life. Through smart, meaningful lyrics, she takes you into a world she has known all her life. She makes you believe the people in her songs have to be real, and, what's more, she makes you think you know them yourself.
Her best ever!
author: Steve Gilmore"Bible Song" really sticks with you....as does the rest of the CD.
Lori did it again....
author: Jeanne PughLori McKenna doesn't know how to write a bad song, but not only are her songs amazing, her voice makes you feel very word she is singing. I don't have a favorite on her new CD, but it's not worn out yet either. The whole CD is solid...from Bible Song all the way through to the last note in Silver Bus. I recommend it along with all of Lori's past releases.
Netherlands will fall for Lori
author: Pieter from HollandOwning the other three records of Lori i could not wait up untill the official release of he record in the Netherlands but bought this also through CD Baby. It5 hardly left my player. The album is great, like the other three. It is more open, lost a lillte bit of intimacy, but is more mature. I know the album is out in the Netherlands official and was last week promoted as the debut (most of us don't know of the other three CD's) of the week. Listen to it folks and you will fall for it and you also will have to have the other records of this great singer.
CD Highly recommended
author: Martha BleekerI walked into a local cd shop 2 weeks ago and heard Lori McKenna's Bittertown playing in the background. I was immediately drawn to her voice, and asked the store's owner who was singing. He told me that Lori McKenna had just released a new CD, and he gave it his highest recommendation. I had never heard of Lori McKenna, but I purchased the cd and have been listening to it non-stop ever since. Her voice is beautiful (reminds me of Patty Griffin with an edge), her guitar playing is amazing, and the lyrics are thoughtful and powerful enough to draw even the most casual listener into the music. I highly recommend getting a copy of this disc.
