Goettingen, Germany the Year 2000
After 2 years of extensive touring with the extremely successful and lucrative "das Rex Richter Quintett" and "die Gebrueder Wurst" cover bands, singer Matt felt in his heart it was time to write original music again. All this practice and energy needed a creative outlet:
MATT CUTILLO AND PLASTIC JESUS : PJ2000
While visiting his family in New York for Christmas 2 years earlier Matt had found a plastic Jesus statue in his mom's closet with a price sticker on his head that
read "$1.00" and the name for band and CD were found - that was at the time of the inception of the 15 track powerhouse CD also available here on CDBAbY:
MATT CUTILLO AND PLASTIC JESUS : one dollar
In 1998 the writing, recording, production and synergetic collaberation had produced an unparalleled extasy and impossible to overlook joy in the hearts of all three of us band members. We were instantly saved and reborn. We didn't know what happened, it just did. Nobody had to tell us. Now bear in mind - we are not "Jesus freaks" nor are we trying to mock big J. We call 'em as we see 'em and do not and did not try to fight it. He was there with us all the way.
We did drop the project shortly after the making of
"one dollar" though for 2 years to hit the road all over Germany, Holland, Greece and Turkey with Rex Richter until 2000 when the urge became too strong to ignore anymore and Matt's itchy writing and rocking fingers channeled deepest and darkest emotions from beneath layer after layer of year after year behind him running faster and faster... running fast on a broken soul...this is the follow up CD to "one dollar" and it is appropriately named for the new milennium.
The enormous drumming of Ralf Fricke could only have been conceived of in nirvana's heavenly realm where thunder and lightning play in God's bowling alley in the sky and Tom Spoetter's exclusively Rickenbacker pounding 4 string electric German beer-bass playing style could best be described as a mix of Johnny Cash's rhythmically bouncing right thumb and a tribute to the Ramones' simplistic punk power.
These 6 original tracks plus one bonus SUBLIME cover are a direct reflection of the man himself who brought it to you. It is a testament to Matt Cutillo's condition at the time and is an open diary to the listener. Pain, hunger, pure love and hopelessness wrestle for control; trying to lead a good life but always falling short of that perfection that no human alone could ever possibly hope to achieve.

"Time to learn about loss..." - Max Cady, villain:Cape Fear
author: Reginald Backworthy; Riptimes Mag, San DiegoThis Cd is a short but sweet testament to punk meets pop music. Very familiar structures and listener friendly melodies line the path of this hard-hitting straight and powerfully to the point work. Cutillo, Spotter and Fricke find the beauty in cutting flesh to the bone and ripping any remnant of excess away for a very bare bones approach to rock music. To say I like this Cd is an understatement. Buy it you'll like it.
