Cara Mastrey honed her vocal techniques in rock, power singing and opera, trained by Elizabeth Sabine and Ron Anderson; two of the best vocal coaches in Los Angeles. For the past 20 years she's performed live and as a recording artist in Los Angeles, Minneapolis, and Ireland. She sang along side rock icons such as Ratt, Motley Crue, Dokken, Quiet Riot, Warrant, and Roy Harper. In 1991 she formed her first rock band and played the LA scene.
Cara's been a private vocal coach for 14 years and is sought after by students of all ages, singing experience levels and musical styles. Being in such great demand and realizing there's only so much time in a day, it was inevitable that she create her own instructional 25 minute CD, taking her knowledge and skill to the masses. Now, with Cara's help, and practice, you can develop your vocal chords and sing every day with confidence, sharing communication and feelings through the joy of melody.
I beleive everyone should sing...and everyone can! A hearing impaired person can sing through the sense of vibration. When you make certain sounds, you bring out various degrees of vibration and therefore many different sounds, tones, and even colors. Those elements not only change the world around you, but can change what goes on inside your own body mentally, physically and spiritually.
My technique of developing your vocal chords is to start with the breath. If you're breathing poorly, it makes singing almost impossible. The breath is what vibrates the larynx which makes the sounds. Unlike a guitar, where you actually strum or pluck the strings, it's quite the opposite. You don't want anything touching the chords excpet the amount of breath you blow or push or breathe through the chords in combination with the pharynx (which is the tiny cavity leading from the mouth to the nose). This helps to resonate various sounds.
In Volume One, we'll explore this technique, along with how to breathe, relax, placement of your mouth, tongue and lips and much more. You'll find out what you've been doing right or wrong and learn how to excel as a singer. Consider me your personal fitness trainer giving you a vocal work out. Be patient, don't give up, practice with this CD as often as possible and I promise you, you will hear a difference and become more confident when you "Sing with Mastrey." -- Cara Mastrey

Great information and excercises for beginners or experts alike
author: Scott HenzMany traditional vocal coaches (in my experience, anyway) rely primarily on the repetition of scales with a minor emphasis on the understanding of the associated muscles / cavities / placements, etc. that make up our favorite invisible instrument. I have been singing rock for 20+ years and have studied with many different instructors along the way, becoming bored with all of them in time. I learned as much from Cara in an hour as the rest of them could teach in five years. Cara presents the material in terms that are easy to understand and conceptualize for the beginner as well as some great concepts and excercises that will help the more advanced singer better visualize exactly what they're doing (right or wrong) as they vocalise. "Sing with Mastrey" expertly reinforces the solid understanding and visualization of how the many "components" of the vocal instrument work together necessary for a singer to begin to control these things independently and then collectively. This level of control directly influences the scope of material that a singer can comfortably perform and what they can ultimately do with their voice. Cara keeps things interesting throughout this CD by employing fun, unique excercises with thorough explanations of what you should be thinking and feeling, before and during each excercise. Cara also sings along with each excercise/scale, which is a great help for less experienced singers working on pitch or for the more advanced singers focusing on dynamics or timbre. The pharynx info / excercises alone were worth the price of this CD for me. I use this CD as part of my personal practice routine as well as for my vocal warmup excercises before performing. One run through it and I'm ready to go. Warm-down excercises at the end of the CD are helpful as well. If you are serious about using your instrument to it's FULL potential and desire the knowledge and ability to sing most any style or artist someone could throw at you, consistently, this CD will give you the foundation you need to begin taking it to the next level. Can't wait for Volume II!
If you don't sing better after one session with this CD, I'll eat these words!
author: Tawn MastreyAs I engineered this CD, I ended up learning techniques and bettering my singing voice! This really works! I can't wait to work on Volumes II and III. Volume I is NOT just for beginners, however, it's also a great tool in keeping your voice in shape. And it's a lot cheaper than personal vocal lessons! You've got nothing to lose and everything to gain.
