This album was recorded live over two nights in August 2005 at La Cova den Xoroi - a club carved out of the cliffs on the island of Menorca in the Mediterranean. Joining the band for the gigs was special guest percussionist Sam Bell (conga and timbale) and the set includes a mix of NMS originals - from various albums - and cover versions of soul-jazz and boogaloo classics by Jack McDuff, Rusty Bryant, the Meters and Grant Green. This CD make me happy. Very nicely.
Terrific Band!
author: MarcJust discovered this band, The New Mastersounds recently and I can't tell you how much I am enjoying this CD.. BUY THIS CD! You will not regret it.. It is brilliant.. I am going to see them at The Bamboo Room in Lake Worth Florida March 2008 and I am really looking forward to it. The band has a throwback sound reminiscent of Booker T and The MG's but different.. Just funky brilliant music..
absoloutely essential - time is tight
author: ritz mgootimeless stuff from these lads - mixing up Booker T, New Orleans backbeat, Grant Green etc and holding it together in an essential funk framework...damn! must have -- 4 stars rather than 5 just because they sound even better with their new sax/flute man. repeat: must have.
Bottoms up folks!
author: Burt 'Big Daddy' BummerImagine if you will...if you can. Young lions being schooled by the old masters. Frugal ole' veterans keeping time with 'Freshies' in the big city. In 2004 these young upstarts (The NMS) hooked up with the legendary sax wailer Papa Lou Donaldson himself. That on its own deserves a bucket full of grandoise compliments. The New Mastersounds not only followed but they lead on those nights. These Limmies with hipster clothing and layed back attitudes... really cooked!Lou's not featured herein but the concept sizzles with adept skill & talent. They can rock, groove and boogie all the way live children! Superb muscians, excellent recording sound from this live date. Just get it soon!!
Best live recording people!!
author: Oscar Hite-SamuelssonI think you should buy this sizzling live recording of the Mastersounds. These guys especially Eddie Roberts on the guitar are a God send! That being said i only have this one cd so far. If they keep their game fresh then many more waggish wilma's can have a gay old time. Live from somewheres called Majorca comes the best new crazy funk quartet this side of Tokyo Japan! Get it and you will be living LARGE...like yo ole land lady does! Catch the record yourself lasses!! Sweet ass prices to buddy boy!The New Mastersounds go off like a case of malt liquor in a stolen Chevy!

This stuff is like Marmite. You will love it or hate it there is no in between. Anyway sample a few tunes and order it straight away if you liked it. Addictive if you are into this groovy Hammond layered instrumental guitar boogaloo music.
