notes
Mary was born in New Jersey. She was actively encouraged to play Irish music by her father Mike. He provided an environment that nurtured Mary to learn the music almost by osmosis. She has attained a remarkable level of virtuosity on flute, tin whistle and accordion placing her in the rare category of Irish musicians who excel on multiple unrelated instruments. In addition to recordings with her father, she has just released her debut solo album "Hand Me Downs". This recording features many tunes that she learned from her father and he also joins her on a few tracks. Mary is known for her association with Irish super-group Cherish The Ladies with whom she spent seven years touring and recording.
------
Solo debut from Mary, "Hand Me Downs" released in February 2002. Featuring Mary on accordion, whistle, flute & concertina. Mike also joins her on a few tracks. In addition to accompaniment with guitar & bouzouki on this recording, Dónal Clancy is also the producer.

'Hand-me Downs'
author: Martin H. GroodyOf the hundreds of Irish Trad. CD's in my collection, This CD 'Hand-me Downs' is the most enjoyable. For some reason , it strikes a deep cord in you. I particularly love track #4 'Martin Mulvihills ' a great but beautiful slowly played Jig. . All the tracks are so well done. I can honestly rate this CD my # 1 favorite. It's in my Car, CD players and all 'My Music'. Mary, Mike and Donal well done
Nice collection of tunes, well played
author: Marty HeymanMary's very versatile and very good. It's a good selection of tunes and a great demonstration of her versatility. I keep coming back to it along with the two she did with her dad, Mike. Great, straight-ahead stuff.
