notes

"Between Blues, Jazz and Rock & Roll lies musical ground where basic emotion and straight-ahead grooves meet spontaneity, creativity and sophistication. It's with this appealing blend that Duke Robillard band drummer Mark Teixeira, and a stellar cast of New England heavies (including Toni Lynn Washington, "Sax Gordon Beadle, Roomfull of Blues alumni Doug James and Carl Querfurth and Hammond B-3 monster Lonnie Gasperini) generate Mark's debut CD 'Saturday Night & Sunday Morning'. It's a driving, swinging and melodic outing that will tickle the listener from wig to toes." Dick Shurman

"Mark's debut CD of gospel flavored Blues, Jazz and Swing, shows his flair for creative drum grooves along with Lonnie Gasperini's groovemaster approch to the Hammond B-3 organ. Spiced by a host of New England's finest Horns, guitarist and singers..." Duke Robillard

Mark Teixeira has worked with many of the greats in the Blues and Roots music world. Including Little Milton, Duke Robillard,Jimmy Mcgriff, Rick Danko, Ruth Brown, Al Kooper, Red Holloway, Jay McShann, Joe Louis Walker, Ronnie Earl, Bryan Lee, Toni Lynn Washington, Sugar Ray Norcia, Bruce Katz, David Maxwell, Sax Gordon Beadle and Doug James, Big Jack Johnson, John Hammond, and many more. • The press roll, transcendent.
    author: John Hoik

I have to confess to being a huge fan of organ trio stuff, and also of the immortal drummer Art Blakey. When I heard the first Blakey-style press roll swelling under a deep layer of B3 grease on this beautiful cd I gotta confess I was hooked. This is a tasty, bluesy and swinging piece of work. The drumming displays that rarest of gifts: killer chops ALWAYS in the service of the groove. And the recording is wonderful as well - the subtleties of the cymbals are captured in all their icy purity. This disk has leaped to the top of my list of favorites, and I can't wait to hear more!

I recorded this CD with Mark at my home studio in Sudbury, MA. Every session was a treat! All these great players would show up, and Mark would allow them to do what they do best as they approached each song. Each player added their own magic. I might add that this was a 99% live recording. Just about as honest as it gets. It practically mixed itself!

  • So groovy ! ! !
    author: EDDIE LANDSBERG

Fans of classic soul Jazz, organ Jazz, bop, gospel and American groove music will find themselves in heaven listening to this CD... Ensemble is reminiscent of the classic Blue Not Organ sessions of the early - mid 60's (circa Baby Face Willette, Jack McDuff and Patton!) Few people can play with this so authentically... Though its clearly Mark Teixeira's CD (and he definitely proves it) there's also plenty of space for the ensemble, a who's who of deserve to be better known players and can stand on their own as well. All in all this is pocket Jazz with soul, funk, groove and variety that's all too rare these days - - all an all a tight, versatile ensemble - - in the tradition, but also in their own voice... Get it ! ! !

  • What a Great CD! Lots of swinging going on with good vocals
    author: Paul Imondi

I really enjoyed hearing this CD. It has it all! Swing, slow blues, great vocalists, and even a rock tune and an original new orleans feel song written by Mark. The horn section is out of sight and the different guitar players featured really impress me being a guitarist myself. This is a must have CD for everyone who loves Organ grooves and a real fun CD which will add life to any party. Paul
