notes

A favorite saying of Mark G.'s is, "If I were to die today, I would have no regrets!" A truer statement could not be made. Mark G. has fulfilled nearly every dream, has accomplished feats big and small, and each day poses new challenges, yet this amazing individual finds time to do what he loves more than anything else, and that is to sing as if he were giving his final concert. Mark G.'s love for music began at a very early age, when he lived near Merle Haggard and his sons in Bakersfield, California. For Mark G., "hanging out" with Merle, and his family was nothing special, he just knew what fun it was to swap stories with Noel and Marty Haggard, because they were just as curious about Mark G.'s family business, as Funeral Directors. Another aspect of Mark G.'s singing career is the gift of inspiration from Elvis Presley. As a small boy he was taken to Elvis' performances in Las Vegas, and in some respects looked at the experience as being "forced" to attend, ironically enough, Mark G. is probably the most like voice to Elvis' ever heard. "RIGHT PLANE...WRONG AIRPORT" is a heart felt tribute to a couple of legends in the music industry, Merle Haggard and Elvis Presley. Actually, the taping of this work came at a time in Mark G.'s life when he was faced with a devastating illness of Parkinson's Disease. When the illness permitted, Mark G. would muster the energy to battle the immense pain and work diligently to put this work together, you will be amazed at the magical, mesmerizing sounds as you listen to "RIGHT PLANE...WRONG AIRPORT".

Some of the experiences of Mark G.'s life have been the honor of a congressional appointment from President Gerald Ford to attend the U.S. Naval Academy - Annapolis upon graduating from San Diego Military Academy in 1975. His dream was to be a "fighter jet jock" Prior to graduation, Mark G. had made a promise to his Grandfather that he would follow in the footsteps of his family and friends and at the young age of twenty, Mark G. became the youngest licensed funeral director and embalmer in the United States. He was a featured on Johnny Carson, in PEPOLE Magazine and various trade journals for his yet, another incredible achievement. Flying airplanes had been one of Mark G.'s passions since he was fourteen years of age, and while away from the rigors of the funeral business while flying for relaxation, he again began to realize that he loved singing just as much. Mark G. began singing various songs, and interesting enough was able to do impersonations of all types of artist, but the most attention from friends and family came when he would "belt out" an Elvis tune, and has been accused more than once that his voice surely could not be Mark G. as it sounded "just like Elvis!"

Although Mark G had made a committed promise to his Grandfather, his heart was always up in the sky. With the prosperity from his success in the funeral business, his desire to fly, bigger, faster planes came to fruition! This is where another challenge presented itself, and he decided that flying charter Learjet's was a must do! As time passed, this "Bakersfield Kid" was owner and operator of three funeral homes in the San Joaquin Valley. On Mark G.'s twenty third birthday he received his Lear rating.

Flying and singing were the two loves that allowed Mark G. the escape from the funeral business he yearned for. At every opportunity he would find himself singing, the response each time was more and more appreciated and requested from any and all audiences Mark G. could find. However, physical and emotional battles began taking place within his body and it was now quite obvious that Mark G. was being faced with one of his most dreaded decisions. After a positive diagnosis of Parkinson's Disease in 2002 he accepted the fate that flying was going to be no more. As if insult and injury were not enough, with in a couple of years he would be given the devastating news that his only child, Hannah was diagnosed with a malignant brain tumor. She passed away in the Summer of 2004.... Like many entertainers the unhealthy choices of booze and prescription drugs came into Mark G.'s life, and after too many bouts of over indulgence, and the now announcement that he would have to under go a very rare and painful back surgery or be faced with paralysis, Mark G.'s true ability to face adversity and his greatest challenge would come to be. The trials of his life have been many, the accomplishments have been great, he is still suffering from the Parkinson's and the back pain is often unbearable, yet he surrounds himself with the love of his music and this work on "RIGHT PLANE...WRONG AIRPORT" is not only a fitting tribute to a couple of great artists, Merle Haggard and Elvis Presley, but also to himself, his love of flying and music.

Like Mark G.'s desire to fly bigger, faster planes, he has set his sights on another project. His next album will be titled, "BEERS,TEARS AND LEARS" featuring various works. He has been negotiating with some of Elvis' ex-band members, spending time in the recording studio, writing lyrics, and "belting out" many of his favorite tunes every opportunity he gets. Mark G. will not accept defeat, and his physical condition in some ways has been a blessing, for it has put him a position of having more time to concentrate on his music. With a new love for life Mark G. promises that you will not be disappointed with what is up and coming. As you sit back and enjoy "RIGHT PLANE...WRONG AIRPORT" keep in mind that the best is yet to come!
