notes

"Passionate, warm, fiery, amorous, sympathico, tender, demonstrative, pleasing, robust, whimsical, amusing, fanciful, well-rounded...Lisa's disc affirms the fact that the world wouldn't quite be the same without music." George W. Carroll/The Musicians' Ombudsman

"The clarity of her projection is awesome. There is no pretense in her voice. I love the sense of innocence that she has. It seems to come from a genuine reverence for the music. Totally amazing." -Mark Kleinginna, jazz fan

With her dynamic voice, Lisa Marinacci combines the sentiment and sincerity of yesterday with the contemporary sound of today.

Produced by both Lisa and famed jazz guitarist Joe Negri, Waiting For Spring features 11 tracks, both old and new, and features a swinging quartet of Joe Negri on guitar, Max Leake on piano, Brian Stahurski on bass, and Thomas Wendt on drums.

Born and raised in Pittsburgh, Lisa began singing and performing at a very early age. When she was 5 years old she made her professional debut with Maureen McGovern at Heinz Hall in "The Sound Of Music", and since then has performed with The Pittsburgh Pops conducted by Marvin Hamlisch, Stephen Schwartz, The Pittsburgh Civic Light Opera, Royal Caribbean International, and with The Hilton Head Jazz Trio, among others. The history of jazz music in her family spans several generations, as both of her grandfathers were musicians, and her cousin Bob Cooper played saxophone with The Stan Kenton Orchestra and was married to jazz singer, June Christy.

Early in her career, Lisa began working live and on television with well-known jazz guitarist Joe Negri (of the television show, "Mr. Rogers Neighborhood"). One of the most influential jazz guitarists of his time, Mr. Negri was instrumental in introducing Lisa to the world of jazz and standards, involving her in programs like "Jazz for Juniors". Lisa earned both her undergraduate and graduate degrees from Carnegie Mellon University, and relocated to New York where she has performed at Donnell Hall, with AMAS Musical Theater, and with the NYC Fringe Festival. While spending most of her time working and performing in NYC, she still considers Pittsburgh to be her home.

Lisa enjoys singing all styles of music, and is also a writer and actress.

With arrangements done by Joe Negri, "Waiting For Spring", contains 11 tracks of both new and old tunes. The title track was written by Mr. Negri himself, and has never before been recorded.

I was blown away by this cd from the moment I heard it. The clarity of Ms. Marinacci's voice, the beauty of the insturments and the quality of the recording give this cd a top spot in my cd tower. If you are a lover of Jazz and beautiful music in general, this cd will definately enrich your life...just as it has enriched mine. (Track 3 is my favorite!)

  • This CD announces the arrival of a bright new star
    author: Joyce Nichols

Waiting for Spring is an elegant collection of songs skillfully interpreted by talented newcomer Lisa Marinacci. She successfully tackles everything from swinging tunes ("Bluesette" and "Devil and the Deep Blue Sea") to sweetly wistful ballads ("How About Me") in a beautifully crystalline voice. However, Waiting for Spring is not your typical collection of the same old standards. Marinacci makes some daring song choices, such as "Pure Imagination" from the film Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory, and recent compositions by her collaborator Joe Negri ("Waiting for Spring," "I Saw a Robin This Morning"). This remarkable CD would make a valuable addition to any jazz lover's collection.

  • She won't be "new and undiscovered" for very long...
    author: Ted R. Byrne

Clarity of attack and a smooth, subtle mastery of dynamics mark this debut. Listeners who tire easily of the overdone and overwrought will love hearing someone finally take the risk of making it about the music... mixed with an ear for the talented band she's with, esp. Joe Negri's guitar...

  • Lisa reaches us where life's promises are answered with love.
    author: Dolly Staaf Carlson

With this CD's incredible magnetism (especially in Waiting for Spring)I was touched where life's promises are answered with love. Joe Negri and Lisa Marinacci are fantastic, as always.

I just listened to Waiting for Spring! What a breath of fresh (spring) air! A much needed alternative in today's music! Being a devoted fan of Rock and Roll, I was amazed at how much I enjoyed the CD. Lisa's voice is as good as it gets! And the title "Waiting for Spring", in addition to being the lead song, reflects the artist's anticipation of well deserved regonition of talent. Her wait for spring has sprung!
