notes
"If Aretha is the Queen of Soul, Redmond must be considered an official Lady in Waiting."
--Dave Nuttycombe, Washington City Paper
"Every once in a while, a real knockout lands in the [CD] pile, a genuine jaw-dropper. Mary Ann Redmond is a stunning vocalist, she is not just covering these songs, they are transformed by her, exalted into something completely new. Her own songs are equally fine..." --Chris Jorgensen, Billings Gazette
"It's startling when the petite blonde with a perky smile opens her mouth and out pours an amalgam of Gladys Knight, Tina Turner and Aretha Franklin." --Christopher Loudon, JazzTimes.
"Virginia's Mary Ann Redmond falls somewhere between Dusty Springfield and Aretha Franklin. Yes, her voice is that good." --Mike Ryan, Boston Herald.
Redmond is well-known in her home base of Washington, DC, where she's won a staggering 14 WAMMIE Awards from the Washington Area Music Association (Best Female Jazz Singer; Best Rock-Pop Vocalist, Best Roots Rock/Traditional R&B Vocalist, Best Urban Contemporary Vocalist and Best Female Blues Vocalist.) A native of Richmond Virginia, she has toured with her close friend Mary Chapin Carpenter (the first and only background singer Carpenter has ever brought on board), and has opened for an array of artists including The Pointer Sisters, The Neville Brothers, Ashford and Simpson, The O'Jays, and Smokey Robinson. She was also a close friend of the late Eva Cassidy. In addition to their vocal power, they both shared the gift of putting themselves into a song and making it her own. "Eva taught me that no matter what happens, it's got to be real," Redmond says. "You can hear it in every song she sang. And she was right." --AllAboutJazz.com

Send the Moon
author: MichaelGreat bluesy stylings and a voice that both soars and seduces, filled with heartbreak and longing. This girl can touch your heart, make you nostalgic about loves lost and hope for loves to come.

I bought three of Mary's CD's, "Here I am" "Live" and "Send the Moon" and I love all of them. I think Mary has a unique voice and sings the songs so well that I listen to her repeatedly, on the computer, on my mobile phone and whereever I can. I will be purchasing "Prisoner of the heart" soon.
Accidental Discovery
author: Dennis O'ConnorThanks to Mary Ann for sharing the video of her and Eva singing "Tears In Heaven". I was so impressed with her stage presence and how into the music she was. Her voice was great! I have seen several videos and she really has a great time performing! I I don't buy many CDs but had to get hers and found that CDBaby gives the most value to the artist. She should be getting the millions that the no talent, seminude, so called singers get. I have to listen to a performer repeatedly to fully appreciate the music so have setup her albums in an iTunes playlist so I can play her music while I do other work. I especially like the live album along with the more bluesy numbers.
Mary Ann Redmond, a completly new kind of singer
author: Dave WilkerFabulous tunes, from the always fabulous Mary Ann Redmond. Combining the best qualities of Janis Joblin, Aretha Franklin, Mahalia Jackson and even a little Eva Cassidy, She makes each cut on this album better than the last. You can NOT help but love it.

author: Colin NealHaving discovered Mary Ann from the Nils Lofgren's DVD, I bought CD. Great numbers, good backing band. Mary Ann is a real "find". Hope she comes to the UK sometime, would love to see her live.

Damned is the most well written song...ever.
author: Bud WeatherbyDamned is the most well written song...ever. Anyone who has ever written any kind of music, from a simple tune to a symphonic work needs to sit up, take notice, and be seriously humbled. We are not worthy!

I heard Mary Ann Redmond on the radio and was captured by her voice and style. It took some time to find her CDs, but it was worth the search. "If Loving you is wrong..."is outstanding and touches your soul. I ordered this CD and Here I Am and gave one set as a gift to my loved one for his car.
miracles do happen
author: mariuswhen I heard the cover of dylan's "not dark yet" on the radio I started searching and searching who this singer might be, and I discovered Mary Ann Redmond and this beautiful album send the moon: strong, varied aand full of passion.
True breath of fresh air! A must-have recording...
author: John D.Every cut this on CD, as with all of Mary Ann's others, is fresh and exciting. I haven't been this thrilled with an artist in ages.
I love this CD
author: CandaceThis is a consistently strong, soulful CD. Particularly great covers of "I Still Haven't Found..." and "If Loving You is Wrong...", and her own stuff is wonderful, too.
Left Coast Loves Redmond
author: Nina Jo SmithCalifornia concurs with the rave reviews of this album coming out of the far east coast. This is a warm, earthy voice that skillfully wraps itself around great material. This came to me as a gift from a very good friend indeed. You can hear more music in the same vein on mfvr.com. Pass it on.
One of my MOST requested on-air artists...!
author: Barnes Newberry, Highway 61 Revisited (WUMB)As a public radio announcer out of Boston, I play a wide variety of artists and get many requests. One of the most requested artists recently, is Mary Ann Redmond, for her incredible version of Bob Dylan's Not Dark Yet, taken from her latest release Send The Moon. It is a passionate read that is embellished by her amazingly evocative take. In fact, her entire cd includes solid songwriting, fine playing, and a dizzying array of vocal talents! Any Dylan fan should own this cd, and and I highly recommend it anyone who appreciates a fine vocalist and songwriter.
Redmond's best and most accessible CD yet.
author: Jeff EpsteinSend the Moon is somewhat softer and mellower in tone than her earlier CDs. There are no Cry Loves or Crossroads here. But producer John Jennings has been wise in eveloping this beautiful voice in gentle and perfectly balanced musical settings. This is a listener's album, filled with romantic longings and musings. Redmond already has showcases in her catalog; Send the Moon proves she can create a holistic mood album too, and pull it off successfully without relying on belting.
This needs to be heard!
author: Doug NielsonThis is a CD from a talent that needs to be heard from coast to coast. The East should share her with the country. Don't miss this music!
