Stylish country pop/rock with memorable melodies, foot-tapping rythyms, great storytelling, all delivered by a very talented singer.

notes

Joyce Marden's second CD (the first was Cool Mornings) is a triumph. It is a great voice delivering 12 excellent songs. Yes, all the songs are good. There are no songs on this CD that are there to just take up space. I am sure you will agree if you give us a try. Ranging from foot tappin' country rock to heart wrenching ballads and danceable two steps this CD gives what listeners want. One song after another of thoughtful lyrics and great melodies. Even the rock songs will leave you humming.
This is American music. A blend of styles that, even though there is no twang, ends up being a story telling country masterpiece combining rock, pop, country, folk, and blues into a cohesive collection of memorable songs. A melting pot of styles. Like America.
There are songs about strong women like A Hard Winter. A controversial (perhaps too controversial for the country market) song about the women left behind after war and terrorist events and how they overcome the obstacles to provide for their families and build a new life. There is The Triumph of the Spirit, a huge ballad about the survivors of terrorist attacks (originally Oklahoma City) and other stupid, repugnant acts of violence, and the courageous people who overcome their losses and hardships and get on with their lives. A tribute to the human spirit. Want Rock? How about Nobody, a kickin' country rock song that will leave your foot tired from tapping; or, Road Scholar, a humorous but true song about life's education outside of the classroom. Like two steps? Then there is The Tennessee Quarter, a wonderfully written song about the sacrifice a gifted musician makes to retain the love of his life. Or a Waltz? The Christmas Eve Waltz describes lyrically the love that was found on Christmas Eve and how it was the greatest gift the lovers ever received. Never thought you'd find your true love? Well, in Another Heart Like Mine, it happens to a laid off worker who becomes a waitress to make ends meet and then waits on Mr. Right in a truck stop. All the other songs are great also. Each with it's own story to tell.
We at Lip Smackin' Music are proud to have Joyce as one of our few artists. We are a small company doing what we love to do. We all have real jobs to go to but this is where our hearts are. We hope you will enjoy our efforts enough to help us continue. Thanks to CD Baby for creating an outlet for people like us who don't like getting bent over the stump to get promoted and distributed. Give us a try. Thanks.

Really well done. Great songs well delivered. I got to hear her live. Nice energy and presence. Like all the songs.

  • Great voice, Great songs, want to hear her on the radio!

It is so refreshing to hear songs that are unique and positive and not the same old "break-up" themes. The vocals are sincere, passionate and rockin' all at the same time. I recommend Another heart like mine and Tenessee quarter as top picks.

  • A great CD. A refreshing change.

Another Heart Like Mine, Your Someone Is Me, Road Scholar, Tennesee Quarter, these are very good songs featuring characters whose stories we can relate. I would like to see a few of them made into music videos.

  • I think this is one of the best CD's I've heard this year.

I like every song. What a singer. I happened to have the chance to see her live in Santa Barbara, CA. so I looked her up here and on her web site. I own the CD already but anyone else who wants to hear some good songs should give this one a try. Road Scholar,Nobody, and The Tennessee Quarter are my favorites. I'd like to hear her get some air play. I'd listen to that station. She's cute too.

  • Heard about her from a friend. Said she was awsome. She was right!

This artist is perfect for the pop country crossover market. She just needs to play out and get the right ears to hear her. I really feel she deserves a chance, and someone should sign her before it's too late!~Great music.

  • An excellent CD. Women should line up to get this one.

The first CD was great, this one is even better. I can't believe the artists responsible for this CD are not making it big. Wow! I'd like to suggest listening to just one song but there are so many really good ones like Nobody or Road Scholar or Your Someone Is Me. Well, I listen to a lot of female recording artists and this one is really good.
