The Marc Silver Band
www.marcsilvermusic.com
Acoustic/Folk/Singer-Songwriter/Alternative on a palette of traditional bluegrass & country instrumentation. Lively tempos, gifted soloists, uplifting harmonies as well as the lyrical ballad make you want to put on your most comfortable clothes and hang out with your closest friends.
The Marc Silver Band was formed in the process of recording Stonethowers (2007), Marc's debut CD as a singer & songwriter. Marc's singing voice & lyric writing is sensitive, insightful, reflective, & honest without an ounce of pretentiousness. With every show, the band has gained fans while adding new covers of Gillian Welch, Hank Williams, Gram Parsons, Doc Watson, other favorites & traditional songs. Band members include:
Marc Silver - Guitar & Voice
Sam Briger - Mandolin & Voice
John Spangler - Banjo & Voice
Matt Stein - Upright Bass
Isaac Stanford - Pedal Steel Guitar
Erica Miller - Fiddle & Voice
Chris Konopka, Beth Sloan - Voice
The band is getting set to record a new CD this summer. "I am looking to document & feature the new instrumentation. It is a celebration of the joy and success we find in making this music every day. Our aim is to tour festival circuits, college campuses, theaters, back yards & households across the states & abroad."
The recent release, Stonethrowers, features textures ranging from simple guitar and vocal duets to rich trumpet arrangements, layered electric guitars, and vocal choirs. The record is a well-balanced presentation of beautifully articulated songs that display a wide range of emotional territories. With the release of the new record, Marc and the band have maintained an active performance schedule in and around the Philadelphia, New Jersey, New York, Baltimore, Delaware, and Virginia regions.
Marc left the wide-open spaces of the mid-west in 1994 hitchhiking to California, visiting jazz & bluegrass festivals, and beginning his studies at Ohio University. While in attendance at O.U. I met my first band mates and played in as many bars & cafes as would have us. My interest in several jazz inspired jam bands and a summer in New York led me to study jazz guitar at The University of the Arts in Philadelphia. During my time at U. Arts, I wrote & recorded my first record, The Marc Silver Project. Over the next several years I continued to study guitar, teach music, and perform and play with friends in living rooms and cafe's.
In the summer of 2004 things changed. A workshop on songwriting at The Telluride Bluegrass Festival featuring Gillian Welch, David Rawlings, and Emmy Lou Harris validated my process and rekindled my determination as a songwriter. Armed with my new Martin D-35 and time on my hands, I began writing music with acoustic & folk characteristics. Stonethrowers is the heartfelt fruit of my efforts.
My two, sometimes three, part-time jobs teaching guitar & general music continue to be nurturing and supportive while working to reach my career goals as a performing singer & songwriter. I work with children in pre-school - grade 1 general music, 5th grade percussion ensembles, & guitar students in 2nd - 12th grade four days a week. It keeps me busy while still allowing the flexibility to continue writing and performing.

I LOVE this CD!!!
author: Anthony OnetoI LOVE this CD. Marc Silver's voice is very unique and captivating. It's rare that I find a CD that I like immediately. I was happily surprised with this one. I had heard parts of a few songs on Marc's website. When I played the CD the first time, I liked every song. My favorites are Stonethrower, Nectar Sweet and Rare, Linger, It's You. I could list the entire CD. I enjoy the acoustic guitar and this has that in every song. I've had the CD for over a week now and have played it over 10 times all the way through. I like it! I look forward to new music from Marc and his band.
Melding content with exceptional chord combinations warrant repeated plays.
author: A. TeldanodMarc’s new CD is so comfortable. I keep playing it over and over. The lyrics and music stays with you for a long time after you leave the CD player. Hearing the chord combinations along with the rhythm and pace took me somewhere similar to the great emotions in Beck’s SEA CHANGE, especially the cuts: End of the Day, and Lost Cause. The poetic lines throughout STONETHROWERS hit me as hard as those metaphors laced in the words What is the color of black when its burnt? in Neil Young’s I am a Child or in Young’s metaphoric instrumental section of Ride My Lama. The following lyrics: As I lie here on the floor, broken down and/in shattered pieces. Push Comes to Shove & So I could know the present In the way I know it now. Pull in on the Reins are only a couple of the many Marc Silver provides in Stonethrowers that give you a pause of time.
