"New Horizons" by Robert Silverstein
author: RobertA key component in the original classic Genesis lineup, guitarist Steve Hackett left that band decades ago and has gone on to a multitude of success as a solo artist. All the more reason to praise this 20th century guitar icon is a 2008 release entitled New Horizons: The Music Of Steve Hackett, by Italian piano virtuoso Marco Lo Muscio. When recorded well, the piano is as powerful as the classical guitar and maybe even more dynamic. Featuring transcriptions of Steve Hackett’s music for grand piano and pipe organ, New Horizons spotlights some inspiring piano solos of music from Hackett album classics Bay Of Kings, Guitar Noir, Voyage Of The Acolyte and Momentum. Marco nails Hackett’s spirit on his grand piano while other tracks here feature Hackett’s indelible melodies performed by Marco on pipe organ. On the back of the booklet Rick Wakeman is quoted as saying. ‘I know about this guy. Very, very good as well I’m told.’ Marco’s liner notes captures his track by track inspirations. I would also add, that from an audiophile’s ear, New Horizons is up among the best sounding solo piano CDs of the year.
New Horizons by Nick Tate
author: NickWe've all heard those symphonic-rock albums that attempt to recast the old prog classics as orchestral pieces. Let's just say, charitably, that outings like "A Classic Case: The London Symphony Orchestra Plays The Music Of Jethro Tull" do not do justice to such old warhorses as "Locomotive Breath." But this new release from talented virtuoso pianist/organist Marco Lo Muscio is something else entirely. As the title suggests,"New Horizons" transcribes the best of ex-Genesis guitarist Steve Hackett's compositions for grand piano and pipe organ - virtually reinventing these tracks as traditional classical pieces. "Horizons" -- the short Bach-like acoustic guitar piece that kicks off the Genesis classic "Foxtrot" as well as this release - is transformed into a solo piano tour de force. "Hand of the Priestess", Hackett's sweeping romantic ballad from "Voyage of the Acolyte," becomes a haunting pipe-organ musical > prayer . And Lo Muscio's retread of Hackett's signature "Firth of Fith" guitar solo (from "Selling England by the Pound") evolves into a stirring mini-piano concerto. This NOT for fans only, but will satisfy music lovers on both sides of the classical-rock aisle. Nick Tate (Progression Magaziene - USA)

New Horizons by Gaetano Menna
Si susseguono quindi trascrizioni di brani tratti dai dischi di Hackett “Bay of Kings”, “Guitar Noir”, “Voyage of the Acolyte”… NEW HORIZONS by Claudio Caridi
Claudio Caridi (Steve Hackett Italian Fan Page)

author: Marco“What Marco Lo Muscio presents is my ideal of music: entertaining and meaningful. Prog-Rock played on pipe organ: why nobody else thought of something so cool before?!? Marco is a keyboards ‘maestro’; his arrangements are warm, and respectful of the original. A real pleasure to listen to, both on CD and live”.
