notes
2001 release from this award winning, hard driving blues band that was voted "Best Unsigned Blues Band in Southern California", finalist in LA's Rock War 2000 and nominated Best Blues artist by LA Music Awards. Mama's Boys prove on this disc why they deserve the accolades. No pretty boy pretenders in suits here as they come out of the oldest blues bar in LA, where you cannot jive! Johnny Mastro leads the band on vocals and gutbucket harmonica thru 13 songs.
Mama's Boys originally formed in 1993 at Los Angeles' oldest blues club, Babe's & Ricky's Inn and have grown into one of the most successful bands in Southern California playing over 250 gigs a year. They are named after the club's owner "Mama" Laura Mae Gross and are led by harmonica player and singer Johnny Mastro. They were one of the house bands until the club moved in 1996.
Johnny Mastro (Harmonica/Vocals) , originally from Upstate New York, has been playing harmonica since the age of 9. Critics have described his style as "gutbucket". You can tell he is a huge fan of the 50's and 60's Chicago style blues.

Like a swamp-blues, blind, black man, born on the mud banks of the Mississippi Delta...this is it. Hound dog, rocking chair, bayou funk grooves...head bobbin', soul sobbin', old school righteousness. THANK YOU FOR SAVING L.A.! -Kelster
This is the stuff
author: EdTook me long enough! Thought I'd found some studio band when I located 6X4 sometime ago and have been searching all over for anything more from the Mama's Boys! Now I have the complete selection, when is there going to be more? You can call it an addiction! I'll be spreading the word and looking forward to a live preformance!

The Real Deal
author: cherokeetexIf you're looking for hard driving, raw, gutbucket blues with soul and energy; look no farther. Mama's Boys are the real deal. Awesome powerhouse lineup of harmonica, guitar and bass. "Pinch that Snake" along with "Chicken and Waffles" packs a wallop. Definitely a 5 star recommendation!
