notes
Mali (pronounced Molly)Woods' songs are brimming with everything that makes music a powerful life-force in the world. Her lyrics are poetic, deeply thought, deeply felt and wield that potency all art seeks to accomplish: the ability to tell a personal story that makes us all nod and say, " You just said the thing I've felt all my life but didn't know how to express." Her story-telling follows the courageously forged footpaths of her folk-women predecessors, from Joni to Ani; this is the voice of a new generation of women who do not shy away. And what a voice it is. Mali's vocals soar flip rip dive and twirl through the air and then -- in a moment -- hush to a lull softer than the setting sky. Listening to her will return you to the pure raw beauty of the human voice, which she sets off with guitar accompaniment that takes as many risks as her lyrics and emerges triumphant. Add to this synergy of truth and beauty endless layers of melody, harmony and rhythm, the likes of which you've not yet heard, and what you have is a neo-folk-revolution. What you have is a canopy of light rising over the horizon. What you have is Mali Woods.

I am so blown away by your music
author: Mo MontanaDear Mali: I heard your album "Melodic Wand" via CdBaby.com. They don't have this C.D. for sale, but I am so blown away by your music I need a copy today! I'm going to go to your web site and buy a copy but I wanted to tell you that you have yet another fan. I don't know if you ever heard of "Melanie" from the late 60's? She has a song called "Candles in the Rain" and had so much depth and soul...really majestic songs...you don't really sound like Melanie but both of your deliveries are just very powerful...please put me down on a fan list if you have one...Best Regards, Mo Montana (CA / FL)
Laying in a field somewhere just realxing

Multi Lateral Thoughts and Sonic Layer Cakes: Yummy
author: AshkahThis girl has both stunning arrangements and messages worth listening to.
Either way you listen, you'll get a great reward.
author: Amy LotsbergMali Woods is a native of my home, Minnesota who is now living in Los Angeles. Though Mali's music is slightly reminiscent of a few others, this is a pretty unique recording. Part spoken word, part folk music these tracks are more "pieces" than songs. Each one a little art work offering a different feeling and message to the listener. The use of layered vocalizations (as Ani DiFranco used in "Our Father") is very effective. Mali's voice reminds me of Jaia Suri at times, as both of these women have an earthy, soulful sound to their voices. The songs are intelligent, thoughtful, spiritual, political and very well written. Though they could suffice as lovely background music, you will get a whole other feeling if you actually sit down and listen hard to the lyrics and the melodies. Either way you listen, you'll get a great reward.

author: Violently HappyYour music is beautiful. I wish I could order a cd but I've denied myself of attaining a credit card anytime in the near future. Oh the problems it would cause me. But now I know the first cd i will buy when i do get one....
Woods comparisons to Ani DiFranco...vocals equally recall Erykah Badu
author: Download.com EditorWith her rich, husky voice and troubadour's approach to the guitar, Los Angeles-based chanteuse Mali Woods resides somewhere between neo-soul and urban-folk. An urgent, listen-to-my-story delivery has earned Woods comparisons to Ani DiFranco, but her deep, battle-scarred vocals equally recall Erykah Badu.

Completely blown away with what you had to say!
author: CharliI'm definately into music with lyrics that mean something, and lyrics about NATURE, love, LIFE, and philosophy are lyrics that should be in all songs and over ride all else. :) I was reading the artist description on the download page and was completely blown away with what you had to say! All that about music and the way it made you feel in life and going places in your mind is so much of what i've felt, I can relate to you well. I've never been musically talented, but damn I can't ever get enough of it, man! I feel so attached to music, and music that touches me stays with me in an interesting way, and really makes me who I am. Anyways, I listened to both of your songs.. You're the musically talented person I never have been, my friend. I really like your stuff. Much peace and love, lady.. Smiles of happiness, --CharLi
Would of been perfect for the movie "I Love Huckabee".
author: Dj Red HeadI've heard the name Mali Woods floating around, which is how I found out about Until Ur Still, Stars and Gravity's Job. Mali is crazy different, but it works. Tight harmonies and acoustic guitar. The Melodic Wand album also has well produced vocal peak points. It really moves well, hittin' all the emotional and soul pockets that make you feel a good album. I'd place most of these songs in MTV movies or Fox Search Light films, along with the soundtracks...to me that's how you know if a song is good. Most of Melodic Wand's tracks would of been perfect for the movie "I Love Huckabee". Dj Red Head - Why? Most people make my temp rise.
"Whole other feeling if you actually sit down and listen."

You belong on a site with the top acts.
author: Scott Stambaugh-KIAC RadioI heard your song Stars and really enjoyed it. Original and unique, love the chorus ! Anyway, I happen to be part of an organization called IAC (Independent Artists Company) and we are in the process of buying an FM station in Kansas City that should eventually reach around 2 million listeners. Anyway let me cut to the chase, we listened to over 3000 indie acts and picked about 100 total who are radio-worthy and I'd like to invite you to join our site and put that song up along with any others, as the eventual radio list will be drawn from indies who are on the site. We already have great indie acts such as Alex Bach and Zeeza and you belong on a site with the top acts. Hope you put that song up as we really like it ! :) in music, Scott Stambaugh - VP, IAC Head of Programming, KIAC
I'd love to hang with this artist
author: Jolene RubinI'm somewhat of a different thinker and don't find much music i relate to. Mali's way of seeing life and relationships makes a lot of sense to me. I'm glad you use acoustic sound to express your feelings about this BS in the world...not saying it wouldn't sound just as good as some other genre. I just really love folk! great job, Joey

author: UnnatiI love the songs, first of all. 2nd, I love the feel and energy you give off. You really gave me a sense of being inside of a fairy tale. The same way Bjork makes me feel. Thanks
Not many could pull that off
author: Chris LyonsR & B harmonies and folk music? I loved it. Never thought I'd hear it. Its like blending two types of soul energy. I guess anything can work if it's done right. Interesting!
