Pretty darn folksy with bluegrass and traditional country overtones finished with in your face girl sass. Think Loretta Lynn

notes
"Idisyncratic concept of songwriting...explores unusual melodic and rhythmic possibilities which make her songs sound anything but run of the mill. 'Rays Cafe tells of the enduring charm of a mom and pop. 'Whatever Happened to Nancy Drew' is charming. 'Martin County' is a perceptive chronicle of emigres from played out coal mines. A modest yet very ingratiating album." Michael Tearson, Sing Out.
"A gifted lyricist who is able to reveal her characters essence and to meticously recreate settings...Malin's full length folksy debut makes for another satisfying discovery." Andrew Miller, Kansas City Pitchweekly

It never gets tired.
author: Christopher BarrI have owned this album for six months now and I still can't hear it too many times. Rechelle, you and your songs get to me every time. The songs seemed simple at first, but I soon felt their depth and realized that these plains songs aren't really plain . . . Thank you, Rechelle, thank you.
Amazing collection of songs and so well produced!
author: Fran WindlerRechelle Malin makes a direct connection to my heart right through my ears. These wonderful tunes and lyrics are performed with an honest unpretentious quality. They take you places that feel like home. Stands up well to road use and home play too. I've shed a few tears listening to this CD. She explores the bittersweet stuff of being human and provides a tour like no other I've heard on any CD before. This truly is one of my favorites of all time!

Great stuff all around. I hope enough folks buy this one to inspire her to soon release another.

The new Rechelle Malin CD, "Famous Girl Detective", is so doggoned good it might have to be outlawed. Ms Malin, a singer-songwriter from Kansas, has a voice that is so mellifluous one can get drunk on the nectar. In fact, when I was out driving last week, I put on the CD and got a DUI while listening to her intoxicating music. As a result, I am writing this review from a jail cell in Poughkeepsie. Admittedly, I was drunk as a skunk when I left the bar, but once they get a swig of these mind-blowing melodies, I feel certain the jury will agree with me that I cannot be held responsible for my behavior. My cellmate is in a similar predicament. He was also pulled over by the police as he was listening to his copy of Rechelle's CD , and they arrested him for a robbery he had no memory of committing. He figures he got so swept up in the rapture of Rechelle's sweet serenade that he went off in a fit of ecstasy and robbed a lemonade stand without realizing what he was doing. Admittedly, I framed him for the robbery, but I figure that if the Rechelle defense works for me, he's home free too. Even if the worst should happen, at least we'll have introduced 24 lucky jurors to the "Famous Girl Detective" CD, and they will undoubtedly be so grateful that during our stay in prison, they'll send us an endless stream of cigarettes, which can be traded for other brands of cigarettes in prison. It's almost enough to make a body take up smoking. Anyway, I think you get my point about Rechelle's new CD. [Well, punk? Do ya?]

Awesome recording. Haunting, affecting vocals. Rechelle is an author. Her songs are snap shots that could be short stories, novels or movies. Her works transport me, make me feel, make me love, make me want to sing along, leave me wanting to know more. These songs are about real life and fantasy. They are heavy and light. They make me sad and they make me smile. Highly recommended.
