notes

The ever so, fast growing, In Da Lab records, brings you the highly anticipated album, from Chi-Town’s lyrical fiend, Major, “Master and Juggernaut of Rhymes", available now! Featuring the hit single, “It’z Me", that’s burnin up the airwaves and clubs. The album also includes future classic, such as, “Liquidda," “Bustin Loose” and the cunning tale about “The General’s Daughter."

Major made a name for himself with the debut single "Zone of My Own", which was an instant hit on WGCI's "Slam it or Jam it"and "Home Jam". Major was also featured on a Chicago compilation album in 2000, with not one, but, two heavy hitters, "Robbery" and "Two Hott"(which smoked in clubs), this help create his strong following in the Midwest. Major has been performing in local clubs and colleges, visiting local and college radio stations, doing guest spots, offering a freestyle here and there. Also doing promos for dj shows such as, power92 Spank Boogie's, "Boogie Knights" show and The Chocolate Jocks.

Once in a while you hear somebody with potential, and Major is just that person. There is definately a way for this cat to make it big if he stays focused and continues to do what he does. This cd is one of the better releases from the Indalab label and it even made regular play on my cd player. You can hear clearly that Major is hungry for this rap game, and that's what always makes it interesting to listen to an album like this. Check this, perhaps not now, but maybe in 2 years I see Major getting a really good deal with a label. That's if he keeps focused.

The first track Don't Fuck Wit Us was pretty dope, and catcy too, the only thing I did not like was the cheesy chorus. It'z Me I thought was nice to listen to for the sample that was used in the production. I'm sure I've heard that sample somewhere before, I just can't place it.

Revenue is another track I'm loving here. But the best track on here is Deep Freeze, yeah, now this is something that I can play in my ride.

Take a couple of listens to this and you'll see that Major got major potential. Unlike many other emcees starting out Major has his feet placed firmly on the ground, this is evident when you hear his consistent flow throughout the album. You can easily hear that Major is clearly comfortable with himself on the mic and just for that if you in Chicago then go out and support him. Visit the site for audio snippets.

With his distinctive voice, sharp delivery, skillful metaphors, strong will and determination, Major is on his way to becoming a household name.

Influences:
KRS-ONE, N.W.A, EPMD, Eric B. & Rakim, Common, and all the pioneers that gave this blessing to me and showed me how to make sense of the situations that I experienced growing up and just living my life. Without them I'd probably still just walk around with a beat inside my head with no words.

  • Think rap is all bling? UH OH! Think again...

I didn't think that it could happen in this day and age but it did - I was lyrically impressed by a new artist. In the land of grindin and holla-in to stuttering beats with funnystyle flows, MAJOR takes things in a fresh direction by sticking to hip-hop's roots - blending poignant narratives and humorous, witty lines with basic head nodding beats. The several gems he drops on nearly every track make this album worth listening to over and over again. I'd like to say that it's great for a debut and that Major shows tremendous potential but I just can't. That would be doing him a severe disservice. Major is ready to compete with the greatest emcees out there. Finally, while this album isn't perfect, it's definitely an excellent effort. Stay away from the rapid fire flows and pimpaliscious songs (they detract from your overall lyrical prowess), refine the production (just make it cleaner and harder hitting, but don't change it) and your next album could be a certified hip-hop classic. Perhaps your follow-up should be called "Paragon" becuase it will undoubtedly be just about perfect.

Let me get a dub? Why don’t you record that for me? No my brother, you have got to get your on. That’s what I tell my homies, when we’re chillin and bumpin Major’s album. Go to cdbaby.com or somewhere and support. That’s what I did and I found sum tite music, from tha Chi. Like in “U Know Da Name” he states, “So phat/ that/ my style wears maternity clothes. Just listening to this album, you know this guy is going somewhere. Major’s “Master and Juggernaut of Rhymes” is a nice addition to my collection. The beats and tha lyrics hit! I’m happy I got it, cause it’s a must in the CD player. One.

  • . The Midwest at it’s best, YOU GOT THAT RIGHT!!

I KNEW IT, I KNEW IT, When I bought this album from Major, I knew it would be an excitable Journey (first track). I seen this guy rock, the Fifty Yard Line, in the Chi and it was a moving experience. So when I seen this album for sale I just had to jump on it and like I thought PHAAAAT!!!!!! Man, from the 1st song “Don’t F&%k Wit Us”, a battle rap, where he says, “I rap royal /with lyrics so deep I tap oil”, also, “I stay off the hook like a cordless/ in mortal combat I’m coming out flawless”. After hearing this album, it’s hard to dispute these lyrics. “It’z Me” is a great song, like so many others on this CD. I can go on and on about this album and get into a “Zone of My Own” a straight up hip-hop, street song, where major spits, “Wreck styles/ more alien, than X-files/ I’m deadly as reptiles/ punish emcees like stepchilds.” Don’t get me wrong, his whole style is not battle rap, but the way he uses words and metaphors, it takes the club, lady and retrospect songs to another level. The Midwest at it’s best, YOU GOT THAT RIGHT, and the beats are BANGIN!!! Every song keeps you head movin, from track 1 to the last song “I” (this song is phat as hell, also). I’m surprised this guy ain’t mainstream yet; I guess it’s just a matter of time. Man, when I’m driving, rockin this CD, I just wish everybody could hear what I’m listening to: “Master and Juggernaut of Rhymes” SUM PHAT SH*T!!!!!!

M.A.J.O.R. / Master and Juggernaut of Rhymes / In Da Lab (CD) Sample 30 seconds of "Revenue" What do I know about rap or hip-hop? Not a goddamn thing! The genre basically ended for me with KRS and Public Enemy, although I will admit to owning a couple of Eminem and Busta Rhymes records. Man, those guys are funny. Therefore, as I’m completely unable to make an informed comparative assessment of M.A.J.O.R.’s Master and Juggernaut of Rhymes I’ll defer to the incontrovertible "I like this". This isn’t flashy MTV gangsta rap; it’s got a decidedly more street feel to it, with greater emphasis on lyrics and vocal stylings over stolen Top 40 samples. I particularly liked "Bustin’ Loose (Poolwalk)", which begins with (what sounds like) someone’s Mom nagging him, then cops the beat of "What More Can I Say" and borrows the chorus of "Revenue." To my untrained ear, the album's real strength is its rhymes -- catchy, direct and memorable. I can already hear myself singing "never knew/revenue/could ever do/what it did/to me and my guys/when we was kids..." -- az
