In golden days of yore, travelers arriving in Hawaii were greeted by exquisite musical sounds: sweetly strumming ukuleles, the lilting strains of the steel guitar, and the dulcet tones of the Island Crooner gently extolling the virtues of this tropical paradise.
The Maikai Gents, featuring the Mysterious Miss Mauna Loa, present the authentic sounds that embraced the breezes of Waikiki in its Golden Era of the 1940’s & 50’s. Their new CD, “The Wiki Wiki Grog Shop,” will put you front-row and center at the greatest tiki bar of your mind.
“The Wiki Wiki Grog Shop” features a whopping 17 songs, a virtual pupu platter of Island sing & swing. The songs range from hapa-haole classics to Hawaiiana obscurities, from touchingly sweet to gregarious and humorous.
But the Maikai Gents do more than just play songs: At their many live shows they bring the classic Waikiki-style Hawaiian floor show to life with live hula, stellar musicianship, audience participation and, most importantly, real Aloha. The Gents are featured each year at the Tiki Oasis Festival, have headlined Trader Vics, and perform regulary at swinging Tiki events throughout California.
