A- "In Falling Matter"
Magnolia Black
Self-released
Hard-driving, metal-tinged alternative rock with bright, radio-friendly melodic themes, the music of San Diego's Magnolia Black has an urgency, an energy that is difficult to resist.
The band's sound is built around the strong vocals of Robert Rivera, who handles everything from the ska-influenced opening track through the anthemic "A Circle Squared" to the death metal of the closing track, "Storming Mount Weather." The four-piece (two guitars, bass, drums) band provides a solid, polished, even shimmering backdrop for Rivera's dramatic singing, and several of the tracks have a nice, pop-oriented melody that would fit quite comfortably on any alt-rock radio playlist.
Just 30 minutes long, this seven-song EP showcases a local band with aspirations for the big time, and the talent to back it up.

"In Falling Matter", the debut release from San Diego music award nominee Magnoliablack. Born from a diverse selection of musical backgrounds, Magnoliablack is redefining what rock is and can be. With catchy guitar riffs, driving drum and bass, and the melodic musings and styling of Rob Rivera's vocals, Magnoliablack connects with fans from all over the musical spectrum. Often compared to bands such as Incubus and Glassjaw they are impossible to nail down with their uncanny knack for blending styles and melodies. This gift shines through their entire debut release and the range of influences are not easily spotted in songs like “In Falling Matter” and "On Being Free", that open with anthemic guitar riffs and thrust you straight in to their madness. The emotive and cerebral “Dreams Cut”, a hardcore lullaby about personal growth, is one of the eeriest tracks around today. They seem to know exactly how poppy to let it get in the upbeat "Monument" all the while never losing their edge. With their debut Magnoliablack truly is forging a new style that knows no boundaries to influence.

author: John PotterIts a little bit short (half an hour-ish) but other then that its great. Some songs take a while to 'get' like #2 .. but I've had it in the car for a week now and I haven't started skipping anything yet
Freakin Awesome CD!!!
author: Kevin Trubyhey, this cd freakin rocks! in my opinion, it's a must have for any rock fan. with such hard tracks as "Monument", "In Falling Matter", and "Storming Mt. Weather" this cd could be a great album, despite the band's underground status. given more widespread national radio airing, this band could definitely make it big. plus they're all really cool and nice guys! =p
