notes
In the past year, Mabel Mabel has dug a unique groove in the Chicago music scene and collected an impressive, loyal fan base playing local clubs and outdoor music festivals. In addition to the traditional guitar/ bass/ drums/ keyboards rhythm section, this seven-member group features less commmon elements such as viola, dobro, accordion and moog, lending a fresh, eclectic colour to a very accessible sound. Sauntering through, around and inside all of this are lead singer/songwriter Reyna Larson's driven and haunting melodies, soaked with sexi-sophisticated yet somehow innocent lyrics. Her growling live energy mixed with the clever musicisms of the band is a combination that seems to be undeniably intoxicating.
Mabel Mabel is: Reyna Larson- vocals
Scott Stevenson- keyboards, accordion, moog
Randy Henry- bass
Neil Laferty- guitar
Katrina Lenk- viola, backing vocals
Dave Nelson- guitar, dobro
Matt Daly- drums

author: KateThis is the best CD Ive ever owned.
A must-have album
author: Gregg Shapiro, Lambda Publications ChicagoContinuing to make music is Mabel Mabel as you can hear on their cool self-titled debut disc. Mabel Mabel's instrumentation (accordion, Moog, viola, dobro) is a little more on the exotic side, adding to their uniqueness. Lead singer Reyna Larson's smoky vocals give her songs the necessary backbone to get them across. "House of the Blue," the gorgeous "High Days and Holidays," and "Hoplessly," the Euro-cabaret "Satisfied," and "Me Slowly" are more than half of the reasons to pick up this disc.
Buy the CD now, or you'll be sorry later!
