notes
When She Dreams is an all-instrumental collection of folk and jazz guitar originals, inspired by experiences in nature: swimming with wild dolphins in Key West; hiking to ancient South African cave paintings; and living in the Rocky Mountains. The album features Colorado musician’s, including percussionist Steve Amedee of the Subdudes; Grammy Award-winning slide guitarist Sally Van Meter; bassist Chris Engleman: pianist Taylor Mesple: guitarists Joe Scott, Dave Beegle and Michael Lillie; and celloist Hannah Alkire.
When She Dreams is currently being used for transitional breaks on NPR's All Things Considered, Morning Edition, Talk of the Nation, and Living on Earth; was featured on PRI’s, Echoes with John DiLiberto; made Colorado's KUNC radio top five acoustic albums in 2002; and Fort Collins' Riff magazine voted When She Dreams one of the year's top five albums.
Lynn Patrick´s acoustic instrumental songs are uncommonly catchy and unpredictable. You may find her recordings in the "Folk" bin; then again, certain tracks sound right at home on a jazz station. She can flatpick with the best of the country/bluegrass fingerpickers -- and when she opened for grammy award winning new age pianist Peter Kater, Lynn´s music was a perfect fit for his audience.
Despite the diversity of styles, a common thread runs through all of Lynn’s songs: every one of them has an uncanny knack for uplifting the environment. A features writer of a local women´s journal wrote: "Swimming with dolphins must feel something akin to experiencing the emotional dimension of Lynn Patrick´s music." Yet another reviewer called her music "… joyous whimsy, as uplifting and happy as star gazing." That´s because Lynn´s music unpretentiously but unmistakably conveys a sense of soaring freedom -- that sensation in the region of your heart that reminds you of being a child and swinging really, really high, until the chains slackened and you knew you could fly.
"Lynn Patrick makes music you can trust."-Women Who Rock Magazine, New York
"Patrick plays acoustic music of the brightest sort. She´s a gifted guitarist with a knack for guiding listeners on a spirited, spindly journey through country, jazz and folk terrain."—Westword
