notes

Argentinean self-taught guitarist Luis Salinas started playing at a young age, mostly influenced by his family and local musicians. Soon he teamed up with Adolfo Abalos, Horacio Salgan, Jaime Torres, and Maria Graña and had the opportunity to participate in their recordings. After signing up to GRP, the contemporary jazz performer debuted with Salinas in 1996, followed by Solo Guitarra, which included a version of Stevie Wonder's "You Are the Sunshine of My Life." Salinas returned in 2001 with Rosario.
He now has Luis Salinas y Amigos en Espana, a beautiful selection of compositions published in 2005 and currently nominated for a Grammy for Best Instrumental Album in which Luis welcomes some of his friends to play along with him, among them: Tomatito and Jordi Bonell on guitars, Horacio Fumero on Bass, Perico Sambeat on Sax, Jose Reinoso & Repique on the piano, Oscar Giunta, drums and Antonio Serrano on the harmonica. They are all top musicians and altogether a great listening experience.

  • Great smooth jazz with a gentle touch.

A little beach music, anyone? Perhaps not what Salinas had in mind, but this recording suggests so many things to me, from the touch of a cool breeze on a warm summer day , to bossa nova rhythms reminiscent of Jobim and Sergio Mendes. But Salinas is much more versatile than that, and his CD shows how wonderful jazz can sound to even the most uninitiated ear, when delivered with a gentle touch.
