LUIS CASAL - HOMAGE TO PANAMA
Produced by Luis Casal.
Released by Earthcds Partners.
47 minutes
A beautiful portrait of several of the Afro-Panamanian rhythms found on the Peninsula of Azuero in Panama. This CD was produced to help rescue the Panamanian folk violin, the leading melodic instrument of music from this region at the beginning of the 20th century. This recording is faithful to the traditional instrumentation of this music, with the addition, in some of the Panamanian cumbias, of improvisation devired from Mr. Casal's jazz influence. Additionaly, the liner notes present a thorough investigation into Panamanian folk music.
