Jazz & Bluesy Jazz, Latin Jazz, East Coast & More
author: Randall K. IernaStreet Love Jazz is a CD with 12 original Jazz compositions. The 12 tunes and songs span a large spectrum of Jazz including Funky Jazz (Street Love) East Coast Jazz (Club BG011) Latin Jazz (Either/Or) Jazz Waltz (Espanol) Jazz Dirge (Jalafeeboo) Jazzy-Blues (Nates Blues) , Bluesy-Jazz (Priority Blues) as well as Straight ahead Jazz (Just Blow), Jazz Ballad (Silent Hours) Slinky-Jazz (Element of Truth), Chicago-Jazz (At Delore's House) and Pop-Jazz (Looking Glass Genie). The musicianship is superb and all the players are featured with 4, 8, 12, 16 and longer solos. The two Vocal songs: Street Love, about a lady of the evening's pitch, and Looking Glass Genie, about a woman musing to herself in a mirror, feature Susan Williams and are crisp and clear, and the lyrics contain interesting hooks. The title song carries a parental guidance warning because of the subject matter. The mixing is very dry and the stereo separation is incredible. Close your eyes and listen and you will hear the keyboads, horn, drums and bass perfectly separated. For Bass afficiandos, Glenn Stevenson plays most of the songs on upright double bass that was mic'd twice to provide the bottom of this magnificent instrument. Glenn also provided the cover art work and also the disc art. Joe Ierna, writer of 8 of the tunes, plays Tenor, Alto and Soprano Sax and also Flugel horn on the dirge Jalafeeboo. Lucian Ierna is incredible on the REMO 1/2 Shell Legero drums, and keeps impeccable time as well as offering some explosive drum solos. Randall Ierna plays drums on the title song and also Latin Percussion on several of the other tunes. Dean Fernald on Keys plays many differnt styles including the Jimmy Smith sound of Hammond on Street Love and a great marimba effect on Espanol. His Piano solos and accompaniements are full of interesting improvisations. If your taste for Jazz and Blues is eclectic and you like a variety of sub-genres, then Street Love Jazz is a must listen.
