notes

Lovehammers have carved out their own space in the Chicago music scene by their hard work and dedication to their fans. Described as "The most Un-Pretentious Fuck-You Rock-N-Roll Band," this quartet has done their homework and is a breath of fresh air in this often-stale industry.

Lovehammers have stepped up to put the spark back in modern rock and they've brought their welder's torches with them. It's about time a band has turned up with full guns drawn, ready to delve out some serious rock and roll without skimping on the sex and debauchery that grunge so foolishly discarded. Their latest release Murder on My Mind, which has independently sold over 8,000 copies, encapsulates the Lovehammers' arrival as an act that sweeps aside the mope for pure sweat and energy. Murder collects the best elements of grunge and hard rock with a twist of punk that stems from the pure adrenaline the band possesses. Singer Martin Casey has best been described as a cross between Mick Jagger and Axl Rose, while the Kourelis brothers man the rhythm section with a sex appeal that is reminiscent to the early days of rock-n-roll. At the same time, guitarist Billy Sawichik effortlessly rips through riffs and chords to complete this power quartet.

Their latest sessions with Steve Albini (Nirvana, Bush, Pixies), allowed the band to feel and create their own sound. Starting with a "vibe," their songwriting process is continuously developed by sparking off each other. As on stage, the Lovehammers' music is about creating energy, building up momentum and pushing it in the right direction. In the past few months Lovehammers' music has been featured on television shows, print, and requested for movie soundtracks. "The Tunnel" will be featured in the 2005 Motion Picture "Communication Breakdown," "This Town" has been chosen to be the theme song for the World Shidokan Championships on ESPN, "Let's get Wasted" was heard on the NBC series "Starting Over," and the band can be seen in a Commonwealth Edison regional television commercial, as well as an episode of NBC's "Starting Over." Additionally, Lovehammers have recently been featured on the cover of SOAK Magazine.

The band's perseverance and hard work have gained them several awards such as "Lucky Strike Band to Band Combat" National Contest Winner, featuring them on the back of Rolling Stone Magazine, and were runner up in the John Lennon songwriting contest for "Rain on the Brain," and voted one of the top ten unsigned bands in America by Mars Music.

Continuously selling out shows in Chicago, Lovehammers have also played sold out shows in New York, LA's Viper Room and Whiskey A Go Go. Adding to their Midwest tour, they toured with Nickelback/Jerry Cantrell, and have opened for such national acts as Interpol, Cold, Puddle of Mudd, Tantric, Revis, Alien Ant Farm, Lifehouse, American Hi-Fi, New Found Glory, and Hed PE to name only a few. They have also been invited to play SXSW, MOB Fest, CMJ and Atlantis Music Conference.

"Murder on my Mind", recorded at Smart Studios, was debuted on the following Billboard Charts:

Independent Album Chart
Internet Album Chart
Heat Seekers Chart
East Album Chart

  • Lovehammers ROCK
    author: Mark B

Catt from Glasgow must be smoking crack. Marty's vocal range on this CD is equally as good as anything we heard on rock star. This is fast becoming one of my all time favorite CD's. The difference between Marty on rock star & Marty on this CD is the band, as much as the house band were great musicians, Lovehammers are ROCK GODS. MOMM kicks ass! Over & Out & Tunnel are my faves.

  • Stunnning rock album by a new major force in rock
    author: Jim Boyce

Marty Casey probably doesn't realise how lucky he was coming second in Rockstar Inxs. This album is awesome and Lovehammers are about today. Inxs WERE Michael Hutchence and are yesterday's news.

  • I think I should have bought 2 of them! I've worn my 1st one out!!

From the moment I opened the package and slipped it in I was bound in becoming a Lovehammers addict! I love tracks 9 & 10! Let's Get Wasted should be played at every band bar in Illinois!!! Call of Distress plays to so many that it should be a radio hit now!! I'm buying more this week!! Lovehammers rock!!!

THERE ARE SONGS FOR EVERY KING OF MOOD YOU MIGHT BE IN---GREAT CD----BAND IS AWSOME AND MARTY----------------WOWSER!

  • Can only get better!
    author: Catt, Glasgow, Scotland

After Rock Star Inxs I decided to give this album a listen to see how good Marty was before joining up... This album is good and the songs are all catchy, but, I can say that Marty did become a better vocalist throughout Inxs but that can only mean great things to come from this band. Definately one to keep an eye on - only getting 4 stars due to the fact that I think the next album will be even better.

  • WooHoo! How cool is this?
    author: Tania Gilchrist

Liked the music. No exposure to this band prior to purchasing this CD. I have thoroughly enjoyed it! Look forward to hearing more music from this band.

  • Marty Casey and the Lovehammers simply rock!
    author: Janice from NH

I absolutely love this CD. It's hardhitting rock reminds me of bands in the late 70's. Similar to Zepplin, Sabbath and Bowie combined. Clouds, Eyes Can't See and Over and Out blew me away. I can't wait to hear the next CD, hurry!

  • Great new band. I hope they get the expoisure they need opening for INXS>

  • Casey ROCKS!
    author: Paula

Obviously I came to this CD via Rock Star: INXS....but I am in love. Every song is extremely listenable and radio worthy. You can definitely see the influences of early nineties alternative bands. I will be looking forward to more offerings from the Lovehammers!

  • Passion and hard hitting guitar rock.
    author: CHINASKI

After hearing Marty Casey's songwriting on INXS Rockstars, I had to hear more of his music. He did not disappoint when I heard - Murder on My Mind. Great mix of music - rock, alt, punk, & grunge. Passion and hard hitting guitar. This album rocks.

  • MOMM is Mesmerizing and Electrifying!!!!
    author: Starkey

Lead singer Marty Casey (recently on Rockstar INXS) has AMAZING vocals; lyrics superbly creative; high voltage guitar and drums too--fireworks extraordinaire together--What a fantastic group. Best R&R screamin’ ever on select tracks. Song Clouds is more melodic and is THE MOST BEAUTIFUL SONG I have ever, ever heard in 25+ years of rock! Lovehammers put the “E” for energy in motion to stir all your e-motions!!! What a rippin’great time to be alive for this one--every song a winner!!! I am ecstatic Marty will be with Lovehammers to make more phenomenal music (vs. INXS)!!

  • Love it, Love it, Love it!!!!
    author: The Dolphin

I am burning up this CD in my car. Love Lovehammers. Love Marty Casey. You guys are awesome! My favorite tracks are Tunnel, Eyes Can't See, Wait For No One, Over and Out, This Town, and Low Life Insurance. If you don't have his CD ... Get it. You'll be so happy you did!

  • Saved!
    author: Dave Spear

Thankfully Marty was not picked up by INXS! He is a true rocker and belongs with Lovehammers, not some second-rate, hasbeen pop band like INXS. This CD is kick-ass and I totally dig The Tunnel, rippin' song! Rippin' CD. Great job guys! Wish I was in Chicago to catch you guys live!

This cd hasn't left my cd player since purchasing it! "This town" is an amazing song to roll the windows down and crank up the radio! Marty is amazing and I adore his voice. I personally love the "scary conductor guy!"

  • Anyone not sure if you need it?...Read on....
    author: Wendy from Canada

I only chanced upon the band when I was channel surfing one evening only to be stopped dead in my tracks by the most mezmorizing voice. Turned out to be Marty Casey (you can't ignore his amazing talent). Did a little research and found out he as with the Lovehammers...so bought this cd. Best purchase I have made in a long time. With hundreds of cd's collecting dust on a shelf...this one won't. The band is fantastic...and I don't know why they have not had radio play here in Canada before, because they rock...and can rival any of the top 10 rock entertainers today without a doubt. You will love this cd...and bet for sure that they will be HUGE....so get it while you can.....I only wish CD BABY had more of their cd's to buy...because I would have scooped all of them! Thanks Lovehammers. I'd pay $100 to see all of you in concert anyday!!!

  • Best CD in a long time
    author: Wendy

I love this Cd. MOMM is awesome. My kids rock out to it. They love my eyes can't see. I hope to see more Cd's from them. Marty you are great and your band sounds wonderful.

  • better than INXS
    author: Joe

Album starts off strong and builds to the end. Marty is a superstar already. Not having seen final episode of INXS rockstar yet I hope Marty is 2nd so he will continue making this great music.

  • Worth every cent!!
    author: jennifer

With technology what it is today, I rarely spend money on CD's. This album is so great that I couldn't wait to show my support of the band and purchase this CD. I listen to it over and over. It's just a matter of time until being a Hammerhead becomes an epidemic.

  • You need this CD!
    author: Fred

If you like Marty on Rock Star:INXS this will blow you away. Hear the real Marty and his band. You will not be disappointed at the energy and emotion brought to you on this all original album. I need to get their other one now.

  • Great CD. The songs sound fresh and make music exciting again.
    author: Pam Burton

Found out about this group after seeing Marty on tv. I love the CD. The music sounds fresh and exciting. Reminds me of why I love rock music.

  • Can't get enought of the Lovehammers & Marty Casey
    author: RayneDove

This is one rockin CD. The Lovehammers have an awesome sound that makes me want to dance. Marty Casey on lead vocals is magnetic and commanding on all tracks. I've put these songs on my mp3 and listen to them daily. Have to have my Lovehammer fix everyday:) This band is well on its way to the top of the charts!

  • author: Lisa

Music is refreshingly original. Singer Marty has an awesome voice - very resonant. One of the great somewhat still "undiscovered" bands around. Waiting for them to tour NY.

  • This band is the OPPOSITE of non-conforming!
author: Tracy W. in Shellsburg, Iowa

There are so many reasons why I absolutely LOVE this CD!! A lot of bands can have great music, or an awesome singer - - but the Lovehammers have both. I was also pleasantly surprised to find that there is a wide range of vocals offered on this CD. Unfortunately there are many performers where upon listening to their full CD, you realize that ALL of their songs sound the same. Sure, they may not have the same words or the same music, but there's no creativity. And if there IS creativity, then some of the songs end up going to crap due to their overcompensation. The Lovehammers take the cake though as far as I'm concerned. From the jumpin' up and down excitement of "This Town" to the matter-of-fact lyrics of "Wait For No One" intoxicating tones of "The Tunnel" to the smooth sounds in the beginning of "Eyes Can't See" to the acoustic-sounding "Call of Distress" to the all-out rockin' "Low-life Insurance (Let's Get Wasted)". They provide a kick-ass rock group sound with a bit of grunge, along with an excellent use of voice inflections to carry their songs home. I can't even say that there's any song that I don't like on this CD. There are favorites, yes, but each song has a quality that I like about it. That's a pretty rare find these days.

  • LOVE Lovehammers ** LOVE Marty ** LOVE INXS

This Lovehammer album proves they are a GREAT band. Regarding INXS, Marty's ALREADY a rockstar about to go W-O-L-D-W-I-D-E.

The CD is great. The vocals are powerful -strong & soft- versatility. The lyrics are expressive & the band rocks! Can't wait to get the other CD!

After seeing Marty on Rockstar INXS I purchased the Lovehammers' cd. To me it is much more real that the junk they play on most stations today. I would recommend this CD and group to anyone who wants to go back to real music.
