notes
A group composed of a shared cynicism and dissent towards their own local market, Lost Cause brings together two of Iowa's finest wordsmiths. From the abstract consciousness of aeon grey to the more traditional stories and metaphors of Angle, Lost Cause is formed. A name symbolizing the hope of two individuals displayed throughout their debut CD as a duo, THE PAPER CUTS. Fourteen tracks written and composed with an insightful, sometimes comedic look at the two individualslifestyles, and struggle to make a career out of the everyday activities they enjoy. A day in and day out push to avoid the corporate cubicle, THE PAPER CUTS is an album full of theme songs for the average joe. Weaving together the emotions, indifference, and fight to stay motivated stemming from the monotonous slow flow of an Iowa backdrop, rolling out the carpet for what hopes to be a prosperous newborn era of hiphop. This Lost Cause will not disappoint!!!!

This cd is in my top 3 of 2004.
author: NyghThis cd is in my top 3 of 2004. Right next to The UN album and Celestial Clockwork. And Im not just sayin that because I got a couple of beats on it! Ha! The intro gets you dancing right from the jump. Beats are top notch, and the emceeing is precise. A great deal of the songs are abuot bein on the grind, which I love. My favorite cuts are ghosts, creature of habit, see you thinking, dont go there and short and sweet. Just an all around fun album. Brings me back to the mid 90s hiphop steeze with the energy in the rhyming. PICK THIS ONE UP AS IF YOUR LIFE DEPENDED ON IT! (Because it does...mwahahaha)

author: FALLENThis fourteen track collab album is mind-bending from the dramatic intro simply entitled “Start” all the way through the finish-line “Cold Blood,” which has an infectious vibe to it leaving the album summed up strong and the listener’s ears craving more. But first things first, back to the tracks and the artists. “Aeon Grey,” formerly known as “Know1” unleashes his eclectic creativity as both an emcee of the duo and executive producer. First time I had ever heard any of Aeon’s work was on “Fuse One’s” Gypsy Radio album, where he produced the cut “Needless Day.” Now almost a year later, he has upped his sound forging tactics 120%, to give the project a strong, ominous heartbeat bringing life to words. Aeon has a more abstract style as an emcee than his counterpart, and a vocal presence that can sometimes send a chill through a listener’s spine. His views on the world would make any conservative, society-puppet vomit from over consumption of dark truth, all done with a distinctive and flawless flow. On the other end of the proverbial teeter-totter, is “Angle” also haled as “Angleoneous.” I had first heard of this cat on the 2001 and 2004 releases of the “Aberfoyle Springs Compilations,” appearing on both volumes 1 and 2. But as said early of his partner in rhyme, he has also taken his craft fathoms deeper. Angleoneous, using a style easier for the average “class of 88’” hiphop head to comprehend and relate to, delivers his mind to you on a silver platter and doesn’t hold anything back for leftovers. Each verse from him paints a vivid picture, defacing the conformist canvas for the duration of the project. Never leaving a dull moment or gap in dopeness. My personal favorite tracks on the album are “Lies” and “Spirits.” Lies, which is a conscious banger that any fan of any sub-genre will appreciate, slams society, politics, cable TV, and even Father Time himself. Spirits on the other hand, starts off with a wicked sounding hook and then proceeds to both emcees revolving back and forth, providing hope militantly to any man, woman, or child in the jungle of life’s struggles. Although only a few tracks are called out by name in this review, the entire album is a must have for any collection. Both emcees have different styles and approaches as solo artists, but teamed up compliment each other very well, and never even come close to contradicting one another. Its about time Iowa let out its Best kept secret……Lost Cause. For your copy of this album go to www.LostCauseProject.com, or to hear a track from the album entitled “Sidetracked” featuring vocals from Ciara, go to www.concrete-hell.com for your free copy of the “Meanwhile at Concrete-hell…..” compilation, also featuring twenty other solid tracks. To reiterate, in case you missed the point of me writing this, if you don’t have this album yet, you’re f*#ckin wrong! ~FaLLeN~ Monumentality Productions www.concrete-hell.com
