Will Taylor started singing country music at age 9, while Lonnie Dean was a little slower to start at 13 years. Will's credentials has seen him play the Louisiana Hayride with such artists as Hank Thompson, Kitty Wells, Hank Locklin, Jim Ed Brown and Claude Gray and played shows throughout the United States as the drummer for Hank Thompson, Johnny Rodriguez, Wanda Jackson, Sammi Smith, Noel Haggard and Jean Sheppard. For Lonnie's part, he has opened shows or performed with: Willie Nelson, Merle Haggard, Ronnie Milsap, Faron Young, Kitty Wells, Boxcar Willie, Mel Street, Conway Twitty, Gary Stewart, Asleep At The Wheel, Hank Thompson, George Jones, and many others. The release of Texas Honky Tonk Shuffles offers 12 swinging Texas two-step shuffles plus the bonus of a further six tracks that fall more towards traditional country music. The two guys take the lead vocals on nine tracks each while provide harmony when the other takes the lead. If you like those honky tonk weepers that Nashville have now turned their back on, you'll find several here for you to buy a new box of Kleenex for. Just a few of the tearjerkers we can hear include "I Want To Hear It From You" (F. Carter), "I've Just Destroyed The World" (Willie Nelson/Ray Price) and "Losing You Got The Best Of Me" (Kenny Price). Will Taylor has contributed one of his own songs, filled with weeping steel in the true heartbreaking style "One Wish To Burn". A few of the more up-beat honky-tonkers on offer are a great version "Under Your Spell Again" a top-five hit in 1959 for Buck Owens and also "Bubbles In My Bear" co-written by Cindy Walker, Bob Wills and Tommy Duncan. Incidentally both Buck and Miss Walker passed away during the week prior to me writing this review. Other up-beat two-steppers that stand out and sure to have you on your feet two-steppin' around the living room are "After Effects Of Loving You" (Hank Mills), "The Same Old Way" (Fuzzy Owens), and Roger Miller's "Invitation To The Blues". Texas Honky Tonk Shuffles was nominated for a Grammy in three categories. There are so many great tracks to be found on Texas Honky Tonk Shuffles that I could write pages applauding the many great songs to be found here, but unfortunately we don't have the space. This CD is a true treasure trove of stone-cold authentic Texas Honky Tonk Shuffles and traditional country music, don't miss it!!! April 2006

“Pete’s Special” is by two artists who really blew my mind with their collaboration on ”Texas Honky Tonk Shuffles” (Silvercreek). Lonnie Dean and Will Taylor deliver exactly what it says on the label with this superb 18 strong collection of authentic Texas honky tonk weepers and two steppers. The legendary Ray Price was at his very best during the 50s /early 60s, the pre “Danny Boy” years, a time when he was singing pure honky tonk – Dean and Taylor are on that level! Lonnie and Will take the lead on nine each whilst providing harmony for each other on such classics as “Under Your Spell Again”, “Invitation To The Blues”, “One More Time” (all Lonnie), “After Effects Of Loving You”, “I’ve Just Destroyed The World” and “Tennessee Flat Top Open Hole Guitar” (Taylor). Dancers will enjoy these, listeners will adore them. Track Round Up; Amber Amnesia / One Wish To Burn / I Want To Hear It From You / Too Much Love Is Spoiling You / The Same Old Me / Who’ll Be The First / I’ve Got A New Heartache / She Needs Romance / Montana Bar / Bubbles In My Beer / Losing You Got The Best Of Me / Oh, I Like That.

  • A superb country/honkytonk/Texas Shuffle album performed by vocalists and picker
    author: HonkyTonkin.com

LONNIE DEAN & WILL TAYLOR/TEXAS HONKY TONK SHUFFLES. Father and son duo from the Dallas/Ft.Worth area have teamed up to recorded a top notch Honky Tonk Shuffle album. There have been lots of music in this genre recorded by others, but this one is probably "top rung" and while most are covers, they've never been performed any better. Insturmentation includes nick, nick fiddles, cryin' steel guitar, electric lead, keyboards, bass, drums and harmony vocals. DEAN a 1970'S alumni from DEWEY GROOM'S LONG RANCH in Dallas knows his business when it comes to Texas Honky Tonk while his son WILL who started performing at the tender age of 11 appearing on the popular 1970's SHOOTIN JIM NEWTON TV program out of Dallas and later appeared with some of the top names in country music and learned his craft well. • A great album chock full of both originals and standards.
author: Country Shufflemania Internet Radio - Live365

If you like Country-style shuffles, this is the album for you. An outstanding collection of both originals and standards that are produced the way good shuffles should be produced - no loud, reverbed drums or mushy overcompression. It's a true pleasure to really listen to music and actually be able to hear each individual instrument. The vocals are strong in the Ray Price/Johnny Bush style and the pickers are superb. If you like the music of the Texas dance halls, this album is a must.

  • Very good!!!!!!!

This is a kind of album seldom heard and the reason is that all tracks are really great hard core honky tonk country and there is no reason to jump between poor tracks because there aren't any poor tracks here. The main title of the CD says it all, lots of pure swingin' shuffle country songs in the early Ray Price style that makes your feet tappin' or get up on the dance floor shouting for another Lone Star Beer (or whatever you prefer). Lots of steel & fiddle and great vocals by Lonnie and his son Will in songs from Ray Price, Mel Tillis, Roger Miller, George Jones and Buck Owens to name a few. Fantastic traditional shuffle country from the first track to the last and it is 18 songs, very generous. If you, like me, are looking for an album packed with the best country music money can buy, stop looking here it is. Great value for your money here and not a weak song on the album, make sure that you can reach the repeat button on your CD-player and don't forget to turn up the volume! This is one of the best traditional country albums released in 2005, do yourself a favor and grab a copy while you can.
