notes
Daniel Liszt is a singer/songwriter from Cambridge, Massachusetts whose work has been steadily gaining attention from the music world. Liszt's work has earned him mention and good reviews in Musician and Billboard magazines, as well as a largely underground following and college airplay.
After working with his friend, acclaimed violinist Mat Maneri, on a series of creative musical projects, Liszt decided to focus on writing new material and assembled a stellar band to back him up. His new CD, "Distance," produced by studio Ace Tom Dube (Aimee Mann, Reeves Gabrels), is set for release in late November 2003. "Distance" promises to be an outstanding debut, showcasing Liszt's unique qualities as a recording artist, composer and vocalist.
Liszt's songs, full of emotionally-charged imagery and searching lyrics, are inspired by his exploration of people, dreams, relationships, experiences and imagination. As he weaves his musical tales his compelling vocals, at once sensitive and intense, draw the listener into the internal landscape of the characters from the songs. Whether it's the forgotten folk-hero, Sunny Ray, a washed up musician that dominates "Jupiter in the Big City," or the trapped, wealthy socialite in search of redemption in Hole In the Ozone, there is a thread of psycho-spiritual distance in their lives that raises the subject matter of alienation, a recurring theme on the CD.
Liszt's music offers a storybook of ideas and feelings painted upon an eclectic, musical canvas. The combination of melodic subtlety and heartfelt sentiment that courses through his work is a musical highlight that can hardly be missed.

deceptively good guitar for a solid masterful roots rock exploration
author: Smother.netRecalling old R.E.M. in a roots rock fashion, Daniel Liszt writes passionately and figures to continue providing the world with great written songs. “Hole in the Ozone” is not just a nod to the environment but has layers underneath that are worth researching as well. He combines imagery with masterfully sung vocals and deceptively good guitar for a solid masterful roots rock exploration. - J-Sin
Enjoyed what I heard
author: Red~I just came across this thro some of my music people and listened to a few tracks. I like 'Moon Over Me' the best, there's a lot of feeling there. I really enjoyed what I heard. There's a touch of the long-loved classic rock sound, but also something new and different, unique vocalizing and rhythm that makes me want to keep listening.
