Biography of The Limeliters
The Limeliters launched their career in 1959 at San Francisco's famous Hungry i and before long, founding members Alex Hassilev, Lou Gottlieb and Glenn Yarbrough emerged as one of the dominant voices of the early 1960's folk music scene. For three years they were the musical representatives for Coca-Cola, and their rendition of the jingle “Things Go Better with Coke” became a national hit. A string of best selling albums for RCA Records and frequent appearances on every major TV show quickly made them a household name.
Time Magazine summed up their appeal with the following memorable quote: "If the button down scrubbed looking Kingston Trio are the undergraduates of big-time folk singing, The Limeliters are the faculty."
In the ensuing years, the lineup has featured several spectacularly talented new members, but The Limeliters have never deviated from the integrity of the fabulous sound that they pioneered. Now, as The Limeliters sail into the new millennium, with members Mack Bailey and Andy Corwin, and newest member Gaylan Taylor taking the place of original member Alex Hassilev, their unique blend of thrilling harmony, whacked out humor and contemporary satire consistently draws standing ovations from audiences that today span three generations. With their energy and enthusiasm undiminished, The Limeliters remain as exciting an act as the genre has produced. Now more than ever, the surging vocals and wonderful sense of humor of this unique trio continue to earn them their title as The Fabulous Limeliters!

Limeliters Updated!
author: Harold WoodThis new constellation of the Limeliters is a perfect fit for the 21st century. Sure, old fans of the original Limeliters will never quite get used to new voices singing their favorite Limeliters songs, but it is necessary to keep the music alive and flowing from generation to generation - as folk music is supposed to be. On this album, catch Andy's little twist on the lyrics in "Power and the Glory" - a stanza in the Phil Ochs original that was left out by the original Limeliters, and updated to score a well deserved hit against the current administration. Long live protest music! Of course, as is traditional for the Limeliters, most of the songs here aren't political at all, and are geared toward putting the fun back into life, but it is nice to have at least a couple of "gotcha" songs in the mix, and I appreciate the satirical "That's My Toy" too - - after all, true folk music is all about social commentary, so let's keep it coming!

author: Robert BarterIt's so great to see the Limeliters' music being carried on so amazingly by the post- Hassilev configuration of his trio. It is to Alex's credit- as well of course to Messrs. Bailey, Corwin and Taylor-that the old songs and the new are than alive and extremely well. I hope these three gentlemen keep their wonderful folk music going for many years to come. These tunes, performed so incredibly, not only connect us baby boomers to earlier times, but they demonstrate too that wonderful music has no "shelf life" but is indeed timeless.
