notes

Life is defined by a choice. The choice that haunts and demands its price. Do you unbridle your desires and go on Tilt or follow prudence down her comfortable, yet predictable path? Following the heart often jeopardizes everything else we hold dear.

It’s a delicate balance.

Come explore one man’s journey into this brave new world. A world that offers riches beyond most people’s wildest dreams. Where strategy is valued, aggression is rewarded and there is no mercy for those who go on Tilt.

Just like life.

John Blowers has a chronic case of the dreamer’s disease. He rarely sees things for what they are, but rather what they could be, should be and will be. In other words, novelist is a moniker that fits him well…creating characters and settings that seem both real and imaginary at the same time.

He is the creative force behind Life on Tilt: Confessions of a Poker Dad. Creating a fictional autobiography requires equal parts chutzpah and fantasy…something John never finds himself short of. He looks forward to documenting the protagonist Johnnoe Zandoken’s further adventures in the sequel Life After Tilt.

John has written several short stories, some poetry, a murder-mystery game and a short play. This is his first full-length novel.

Kenna James is a professional poker player and aspiring singer/songwriter. He has appeared in numerous movies and tv shows and is a well-respected poker writer and instructor.

“The cosmic and spiritual conveyance of this book will transport you to a world that transcends poker, a world where we pursue our dreams while we survive our failures…It’s an open and honest account of what life is like … on tilt.” - Kenna James, from the foreword to Life on Tilt

Reviews of Life on Tilt:

“I loved the humor, the tension, the intoxication of that self-awareness / self-destruction cocktail, and ultimately the almost 40s film noir sense of fateful doom. What more can you want in a cautionary tale that beckons you to go to hell anyway?” Keith Hollihan, author and editor *

“This book is for every poker player and those who love them – at any age and ability.” Francine Dubiski, business woman and occasional poker widow *

“The first person narration pulls you inescapably along, a voyeur, challenging you to keep up but leaving you with the feeling of watching a train wreck unfold with no ability to stop it.” Tony Davidson, library trustee and poker dad wannabe *

“Blowers does a great job telling an engaging story while making the reader consider their own choices of (balancing) family and passions.” Greg Moran, author and professional speaker *

“…the book you have been craving…the one where you regret to see the end of the book near because it means that the end is coming. One where you miss the characters as soon as it is over and keep thinking of the story long after it is finished.” Alicia Legg, aspiring author and avid reader *

“I can SEE that You, sir – “GET IT!”…I can see the talent you have…you need to write the next ROUNDERS movie…the POKER world is waiting for this movie.” Tom Dwyer, poker enthusiast and bon vivant **

"This was a unique insight into the mind and heart of an every-day man facing his own demons in the backdrop of the worlds greatest poker event. This is one of those books that offers more than just a compelling story. You come away actually feeling that you've been a part of the story; that you've experienced a piece of the life of the main character." Kelly Rutledge, sardonic literary critic and world traveler *

"Life on Tilt is exactly that — a study of a man’s life as it spirals out of control, as Johnnoe makes decision after decision that tears apart not only his life, but also the lives of everyone that loves him...He didn’t set out to be a selfish or thoughtless man; he wants to be a good husband, a good father, but the competition, the adrenaline rush, the camaraderie of the tables keep calling him away."
