Laura Harley blends electronica, alternative rock, and pop to make music that soothes the wounds of modern life.

notes

Critics and fans alike rave about the "crystalline beauty" of Laura Harley's voice. In a time when the airwaves are jammed with the static of a world on the brink, Laura cuts through the noise. Her captivating voice, evocative lyrics, and unforgettable songs have brought her devoted fans and critical acclaim throughout her musical career (both as a solo artist and as the former singer/guitarist of the Minneapolis-based band, Sliver).

On her debut solo album, written and recorded in New York, Minneapolis, and Vancouver, Laura combines electronica, alternative rock, and pop to create her own unique sound. The songs reflect many of Laura’s experiences over the past few years including a spiritual pilgrimage and her work as an artist and a life coach. She explores themes of search, struggle, hope and courage. The result is a collection of songs rich in melody and meaning – music that soothes the wounds of modern life.

  • Uplifting and grooving

Laura's music is a beautiful blend of uplifting lyrics and hypnotic grooves. If you like modern electronic pop music, but want lyrics with some depth and meaning, this is the album for you.

  • Harley hypnotizes the listener with a voice that is both beautiful and haunting
author: Andrea Myers for Pulse of the Twin Cities

...Her self-titled album was written and recorded in both New York and Minneapolis, and it’s a unique mixture of urban chic and Midwest innocence. Part electro-pop, part trance and part muted rock, Harley hypnotizes the listener with a voice that is both beautiful and haunting, like a sharply chiseled icicle or a temptress stuck behind a thick sheet of glass. “I’m the fire / burning bright red light,” Harley sings on “Breathe It In,” and from the tone of her voice you have to believe her. “I’m the siren / Cut through all the noise / Feel it change me / I break the silence with my voice,” she sings, and her voice clears its way through a funky pop beat to dance with the listener, forcing the song to come alive...

  • Crystalline Electro-Pop Bliss
    author: Church of Girl

Crystalline Electro-Pop Bliss: We fell for Laura Harley's music straight away. Former frontwoman of Silver, Ms. Harley has taken her talent to new spheres with her self-titled solo release.

  • Harley has enough talent to shine in a world of clones
author: Anna Maria Stjarnell of Collected Sounds

Laura Harley's debut starts assuredly with the song To the Sea. Her voice is strong and the melody is striking. Shine is nicely wrought electronic pop in the vein of Dido. Breathe it in is more radio-friendly pop. Harley has enough talent to shine in a world of clones. One Last time continues the albums trend of strong melodies and modern sounding production. Harley sings beautifully with her pronounced vibrato. Whisper is a sweet ballad handled well. This is a pretty impressive debut.

  • awesomely yummy

Absolutely a great CD. I really enjoy listening to it. Repeatedly. Laura's a very real, cool lady, too. Don't see any need to take apart the tracks--if you're interested just check out the samples. Definitely worth MY money, though.
