notes
If you currently listen to the pop/soul music on the radio, but yearn for a refreshing new vocal stylist that leaves you with the feeling you were on an incredible journey of emotions of highs and lows, this is the artist for you. Denise's dynamic voice, from breathy and tender to bold and powerful, is her calling card. These tunes are radio ready, clear and cutting.
Denise brings together an innocence and sincerity in her writing , while keeping a soulful attitude throughout her vocals.
"I write many of my lyrics when I've read an incredible book. I highly recommend 'When Ordinary People Do Extraordinary Things' by Gerald Jampolsky, 'Illuminata' by Marianne Williamson. Also when I've seen an unforgettable movie like 'The Horse Whisperer', 'Bridges of Madison County', 'The Red Violin', or taking a long drive back to Northern New England, I try to keep a recorder, notebook and pen with me.
"Another way is when I'm just about to drift off to sleep and I can't get a melody out of my head. I've learned to always get up and sing it in the recorder because many times I think I'll remember it in the morning but no way!
"I've lost some good tunes that way. I also dream about music melodies; that's the easy way to write, it's like your subconscious writes it for you. Not all of the songs I wrote are on this CD, but they'll be on the next one.
Some of the song formulas are slightly untraditional (no recipes for these songs) changing tempos and rhythms when you least expect it . The tunes "Tell The World" , "On my own" (a song with attitude) and the story song; "You Once Said You Loved Me" are some examples of this type of writing style. "Tell The World is a bit bluesy and fun", says Denise.
Other songs are beautifully timeless and traditional, leaving you singing in the grocery store, car and shower because the hooks are clever and catchy. Great tunes such as "That's What Our Love Is All About", "I'll Help You Find Your Way" and "You're Still In My Heart" capture purely and simply, the magic of a great ballad.
You want to have fun? Crank up the dance tunes and move that bod! The other songs on this CD are lively, playful and really kick! You'll really enjoy "Losing My Control" and "All My Love".
This CD has a mixture of artists with completely different backgrounds and influences making this a blend worth listening to.
The producer, Tony Walstra, introduced all of the artists and musicians to one another after a production deal between Denise and a major producer never reached completion.
Everyone was excited to embark upon a new adventure in writing and composing songs with Denise. With dedication, fun and late hours, the CD has at last come to life!
"I am forever grateful for working with some of the most talented people in New England. Even before I wrote songs with the musicians on this project, I learned many extraordinary things being involved in a major production deal with a talented producer. I hooked up with Tony shortly after the end of the first production deal and knew he was the one to take on my project. Take it on he did! ... putting everything he had into it. He is an inspiration to work with, always cheering me and everyone involved to go the extra mile."
BIOGRAPHY: 2007
Denise Levasseur won "Song of the Year" on MP3.com in 2001. Following that she toured to promote her first release and held sold out concerts at The Garde Arts Center, New London, CT and other venues. She has appeared on Local Radio, TV and Newspapers and has been featured on many websites in the US, Canada and Europe. Denise's debut CD and live shows received rave reviews. Her first CD was featured in the August 2001 issue of MIX magazine.
You can also hear Denise on the number one selling brand of Karaoke: Pop Hits Monthly July 2007 Country Edition. She was chosen to be featured as the “Singer of the Month” where she sang the cover of Martina McBride’s, Anyway. These discs are purchased monthly by thousands of people so she will also appear on the start up screens in North America and beyond to promote her own music. They also included her song “That Is What Our Love Is All About” as a bonus to all their customers.
Denise is working on her 2nd full length release and hopes to have it out by early Fall 2007. In the meantime she released 2 singles to raise money for 9/11 victims (The Spirit Of America) and also hurricane Katrina (The Levees Of New Orleans).
This up and coming Pop Diva is well on her way to breaking out of her New England confines and taking on the world at large; its just a matter of time. Since her first date at a high school variety show, shes never looked back. "When I walked on stage I was a bit overwhelmed," she recalls, "then once I heard the applause I was hooked." Denise studied voice in Rhode Island, Connecticut, and eventually New York City. She toured the US and Europe covering an array of styles. Jazz, rock, and a variety of ethnic-tinged music all became her own, but her abiding first love remained Pop.
One key to Denise's success is the mentoring of former CBS Records platinum award winning producer, Paul Leka. His informal lessons in songwriting, interpretation, performing, and the realities of the music biz have obviously left their mark. Denise's debut CD is a genuine labor of love, a culmination of many seasons of performing, writing, woodshedding, and dreaming. Producer Tony Walstra assembled a stellar cast of musicians for her first project, and his expertise behind the board is evident. Confident, assured and very radio-friendly, its a mature work, ready for the Big League.

Truly amazing !
author: Jamie StevensThis CD is definitely a masterpiece. I live in Germany and really needed to have this CD. Not only was the CDBaby service great but also the CD is a highlight in my collection. "That's what our love's all about" is MY personal favorite song!
one of the five best pop albums I've heard in the last decade.
author: Lisa A ShielWhile Top 40 radio plays Mariah Carey and Celine Dion to overkill, artists like Denise Levasseur shine in their reflected glow. On her self-titled album, Levasseur shows more range and depth than either of the aforementioned divas, making this CD one of the five best pop albums I've heard in the last decade. From the ear-catching opening of "Losing My Control" through the tender "You're Still In My Heart," Levasseur maintains a spirited and passionate mood. You'll dance, sing along, snap your fingers, maybe even cry a little when she sings "King of my heart, pretender to the throne / You said you'd come back for me, back to take me home." I could easily compare Levasseur to artists such as Wild Orchid and Taylor Dayne, but comparisons do her a disservice. Levasseur is unique -- uniquely talented, uniquely fun to listen to. We go along for the ride as she travels through pop ("You Once Said You Loved Me"), gospel ("Tell The World"), and dance ("All My Love"). It's a blast all the way. In fact, I have only one complaint about this album: Nine songs is not enough!
The writing here is as solid as the production..
author: Ken Stroebel, Norwich Bulletin ( Ct ) July 21,2000"Denise Levasseur." Denise Levasseur (Angelman Records): It speaks volumes about he caliber of musical talent in this area. A singer since her high school days in Rhode Island, Levasseur teamed up with producer Tony Walstra to hone in on her studio skills. The result is a consistently solid disc packed with catchy pop dance tracks and lush ballads genuinely worthy of airplay alongside the likes of Faith, LeAnn and Britney. Smartly balanced between upbeat dance tunes like "All My Love" and the well-orchestrated love ballads such as "That's What Our Love Is All About" and " "I'll Help you Find Your Way," the album also throws in a few nice surprises. There’s a heartfelt remake of Martha Reeve's "Heatwave" and a catchy hand-clapping gospel-based number called "Tell The World." The writing here is as solid as the production, with several ballads that sound as if they might have come right off any one of those Oscar-winning Alan Menken or Tim Rice Disney scores. Levasseur performed at Fort Trumbell in New London during a torrential downpour the last day of OpSail, and hopefully she'll do some more local gigs in the near future.
Levasseur has a great voice.... effortlessly catchy
author: Rick Koster, The Day July 9, 2000In this reign of Britney and Christine - a new generation of dance-beat/sugar-pop vixens following in the formidable footsteps of Glora Estefan and even Donna Summer - it comes as a bit of a surprise to come across Denise Levasseur recording for an upstart New London record label. What's even more pleasant is to realize how utterly competitive this CD is. While Levasseur doesn't come off as exhilaratedly ecstatic to be discovering her own hormones - as do Britney and Christine - her ballads and dance material could easily fit into their radio formats anywhere in the country. The production, by label honcho Tony Walstra and Michael Bowdre, is terrific and crisp, and the songs are effortlessly catchy. Levasseur co-wrote the bulk of the material (save for a servicably interesting remake of "Heatwave"), and stuff like "Losing My Control" and "All My Love" are perfect disco or aerobics soundtracks. Levasseur has a great voice for this kind of stuff, and it shines particularly well on the slower tunes. "That's What Our Love Is All About," "Tell the World," and "You Once Said You Loved Me," with its Spanish guitar flourishes, are high points. While this sort of pop music is certainly not for everyone, it sports a substantial niche in the music business - and it's a pleasant surprise that southeastern Connecticut has not only a talent like Levasseur but the production skills to put out an album of this quality.
