(About MP3 downloads at CD Baby)

A beautiful and rousing journey through a landscape Americana... banjos hidden around corners, pedal steel and Hammond organ weaving drunkenly, stomping bass, swooning drums, guitars like fractured waterways, and fiddles swimming like fish.

notes

"...In the hardened vein of Springsteen's New Jersey and Giant Sand's Southwest canvas-pieces comes the Opry's Americana Gothic... fiddle-driven, and peddle-steel laden, Letterpress Opry seemed to have pulled the songs and arrangements straight from the soil..."
-The Daily Iowan

"... sprawling, rustic tour-de-force... the overall feel harkens back to the time-shifting magic of Americana titans The Band..."
-Iowa City Press Citizen

"The Letterpress Opry, Iowa's black-soil bred alt.-folk cerebralists, forge a sound that's part Camper Van Beethoven and part Whiskeytown. With an edge of humor, and visually potent lyrics... to gritty, violin heavy, alt-country."
-Miles of Music

"First thing you should know about the Letterpress Opry is that they don't hold anything back. They get out there near the edge, they play their instruments with abandon, and they make earthy, emotional roots-rock..."

I love this CD. Killer songs, great arrangements...I've seen them live once in Chicago, and they were PHENOMENAL. Very different in the studio...more mellow. But really effin good.

  • Unusually good songs, stellar musicianship, who are these guys!?

This CD is one of the best I've purchased in some time. Very few artists, even ones I enjoy, write songs of this caliber, AND have the voices and chops to match. This disc transends the boundaries of Americana or Roots music...it is based there, sure...but I hear classical overtones, Beatlesesque harmonies and a smidgen of punk rock to lend some "kick" to it. My only criticism, is that it is a very long album (70ish minutes) and I can't walk away from it until it is done!!
