This story began in a field of 120 different gem sweaters (http://www.gemsweater.com). With so much shimmer and so much shine it was only a matter of time before music simply must capture some of their magical and mystical powers.
The summer of 2004 Boston art student Leslie Hall went home to Ames, Iowa. She brought her apple computer and 6 of her favorite Gem Sweaters to comfort her. After only 2 weeks of GarageBand (Apple's music production software) under her belt she began to write and compose songs for all the lonely and starved people of the world to enjoy. She asked two elementary school chums, Emily and Kelly, to join her in this quest and Leslie & the Ly's was born.
This unique band and their unusual sound was created for the Ames open mic scene, a weekly event when a local crowd of young and old performers have 15 minutes to achieve fame. But what happened June 14, 2004 changed Boheme's Open Mic forever. At 10:15p.m., dressed in Gem Sweaters and gold pants, Leslie & the Ly's exploded onto the scene with beats from another land, outfits to blind the eyes, lyrics to enlighten the soul, and dance moves never before witnessed. What happened on stage that night started an uncontrollable sea of fans, and the band's continued journey to give the gift of the jams to whomever seeketh their great glory.

    I can't stop listening to this CD. Especially Tune in Tokyo and Beatbox Radio. I put Gold Pants on my myspace page. you can't fight the power of the gems.

    When i first heard "ring a ding-ding" i was like, uhm, wow. But the more i listened to it the harder i laughed and the funnier it became. Me, my friend, my sister and her friend listened to it about 1000 times. Its a great song as well as the whole CD.

    Note: I hold resist giving the final fith star as "Beat Dazzler" is not on this CD and should be. It was a cruel twist of fate to find it missing on the cd. "Hey beat dazzler, gem me a sweater! Hey hoochie mama, gold pants forever!" Leslie's talents pierce the veil that have previously denied chunky white girls in gold spandex access to the world of rap. she is more than just brave, she is a role model for the young and old, the geeky and chic-y, the girly and the manly alike. she is a fountain of glistening semi-precious gem-tastic genius. Leslie Hall is a new icon of feminine power bursting in a dazzling ray upon the horizon of the American conciousness. ....and...the only annoying thing really, is that some of the songs just sort of end. she commands the beginning and middle of her songs but then it's like the phone rings or the pizza guy shows up and she has to end the songs wherever. and did i mention "Beat Dazzler" isn't on the cd?     I love this CD. It's a bit short, but what it lacks in quantity it makes up for in quality. It is by far the most razzle-dazzle album I own. I can't wait for a follow-up and I hope it includes the song Beat Dazzler which is 100% pure gold.

If someone has not heard leslie and the ly's and i happen to not have a copy of the cd on hand, I will sing it for them. well, rap it actually. every word.     Man is this cd ever fun. The only downside is that I'm now walking around the office, slightly singing "Geeeeeeeemmmmmm SWEATERRRRRR" under my breath and raising eyebrows. Leslie's got the power to destroy villages, homes, and crops, but unfortunately not the power to stop co-workers from quietly calling security. Ah, well. They'll all succumb to the Thyn Beatz soon enough...

    Gold Pants is by far one of the best albums I have bought and is my #1 summer music album. The beats are awesomely designed to give a dazzling glow of hottness. My favourite song you ask? Well obviously "Gem Sweater" but lately "Danger Puss" has been my anthem. "Gold Pants" is awesome to dance to and impress people with when singing along. "Ring a ding ding" is great to play with the windows down and sunroof open driving thru the hoods of Boston. Overall i love it, i reccomend it with an open mind. PS. I too have always dreamt of starring on D TV, Girls just wanna have fun is #1.

    Never in my 42 years of teaching gemology at University of Thyne have I seen more dizzle and dazzle. Studying gemology, it is often that one will experience the sensation of razorballs of lightning striking one's mind. Yet, the kind of lighting that struck me when listening to Gold Pants was unlike any lighting I have experienced in gemological study. Furthermore, having lived among Iowa rappers for many years, I can say with some certitude that this album is destined for beat box domination.

    This is probably one of the smartest CD's I've bought in a long time. Its complex and fun and its got grooves that just don't quit. I bought a copy for my sister and have encouraged friends to buy it. We support Iowa Rappers! Rock, rock on!

    I might have bought this just because the cover is one of the best I have seen in years...but this cd has lots to offer beside gold pants eye candy. As a huge fan of the movie "girls just wanna have fun" when I was growing up I couldn't contain my joy upon hearing, "tune in tokyo". "Gold Pants" is probably my favorite track from this disc..the song just gets stuck in my head and I have to sing it out loud. I bought a copy of this cd for my sister and my friend Jess and when I gave it to my friend she squealed with delight. Having heard Leslie before she knew all the words to most of the songs already by heart. Anyway...if you are looking for danger and fun you found it. Gem sweaters have never been rocked so hard!
