notes
Lenny White is an renowned jazz drummer, who is best known for playing in Chick Corea’s legendary group Return To Forever, and for being a pioneer in the jazz/rock/funk field. Early on in his career, White played on Miles Davis’ acclaimed album Bitches Brew, and he played with Freddie Hubbard on his Red Clay album. He has also been a very successful, solo recording artist (leading ensemble groups), releasing several albums.
His band The Lenny White Project recorded in 1998 this excellent album, Tribute To Earth Wind & Fire; The Love Has Never Gone. This album consists of eight classic Earth Wind & Fire songs, uniquely performed by White and his outstanding jazz ensemble. The all-star group of musicians featured on this album include Ron Carter (bass), Patrice Rushen (piano), Bireli Lagrene (guitar), Wallace Roney (trumpet), Antoine Roney (saxophone), and Vanessa Rubin (vocals on “After The Love Has Gone”).
