Coming from Ocean City, MD, Lennex is making a lot of noise on the east coast. check out the music and let that speak for itself

notes

A storm is brewing in the mid-Atlantic that has folks in the resort town of Ocean City in a frenzy. But no one is seeking refuge. They all want to witness firsthand the incredible squall of sound and style that has been pummeling these shores since 1997: A perfect storm known as Lennex.

Lennex is the combined energies of brothers Brian and Brandon Luckett (Guitar and Drums), their cousin Derek Boening (Guitar), Bruce Long (Bass) and Phil Ritchie (Lead Vocals and Trumpet). The best of friends, Lennex crystallized during high school jazz band practice where Bruce and the brothers met Phil "when we heard Phil sing we were blown away. The fact that he plays trumpet is just an added bonus."

Lennex - whose name carries a curious connection to the late Andy Kaufman, began developing their own brand of music: A powerful, absorbing and widely accessible vortex of hard-rocking rhythms and ethereal melodies. The band has packed many of the city's favorite bars and clubs, giving everyone in their path a delightful ass kicking. Locals are commonly heard referring to their experience at a show as being "Lennexed".

In April 2000, the band unleashed the eponymously titled, "Lennex" onto their eager fans. With gale force speed, dubs of their debut record ripped through college dormitories up and down the coast. Soon after, the band took to the road on a whirlwind tour that left the Universities of Maryland, Delaware, Virginia, and the campuses of Georgetown, Penn State, and Princeton in beautiful disarray. Following that successful college circuit, they garnered a weekly spot playing at Ocean City's renowned Hurricane Club to crowds of 400+.

Lennex humbly acknowledges their ever-faithful audience as the fuel that keeps their thermals rising.

And rising they are. Out of 1200 bands, Lennex recently took grand prize in an ArtistDirect contest judged by Ska maestro, Dickey Barrett of the Mighty Bosstones, Nate Mendel of the Foo Fighters and Sully of Godsmack. Lennex was also chosen by alternative station WHFS for a coveted slot at the sold out HFS'tival at RFK Stadium in D.C., playing alongside platinum artists such as Incubus, Linkin Park, Coldplay and Green Day (to name just a few).

Already in regular rotation at Delaware's WZBH, is the funky, core-punching anthem "Sumkind", from their second album, the iridescent, "For the Sake of Simplicity." A first for an unsigned band at this well regarded rock radio institution.

Young, talented and incredibly driven, the elements are conspiring to bring Lennex to your shore. So when you hear the glorious rumblings, come on out. This is one storm you'll want to get caught in.

For The Sake Of Simplicity is an awesome album because it's so unique. I just can't understand how these guys aren't crazy famous yet. I love Phil's trumpet skills, as well as his vocal style. My favorite songs are Unattracted, Dag Gone, and When Everything Went Ground. I highly recommend this album, along with Part Math, Part Euphoria, and their self-titled debut. Lennex rocks!!

    author: Brenda

The CD is awesome, if you've heard any of their new stuff before this you wouldn't believe its them just because the styles a bit different but its them before and its awesome cuz it shows how they grew into what they are now...the songs are very nice with perfect lyrics to go along with the great tunes, some bands cant really mix meldoies and lyrics but this CD of course does!!!

  • Where did this come from?
    author: Nick

Against my better judgement i went to a local show and just as i reached crappy music saturation point, Lennex took the stage. I was riveted. Possibly one of the best bands ive ever seen. I bought this cd at the show and the music on it is so powerful that it has the same energy as their live show. Kudos.

  • lennex kicks ass
    author: rob

I've seen lennex twice. the first they opened for Cold in dewey beach, de. the second time was at June Jam. I think they are the best band to ever come out of delmarva.

    author: Matt

I saw these guys when they played with Agents of the Sun in Charlottesville, VA. There were about 10 people in the audience but Lennex still kicked ass! Great cd!

  • Lennex kicks ass.
    author: Lucky

These guys have come a long way from when they were "Kiss Me Kate". I remember watching them when I went to high school with them in OC, Maryland.

  • author: Michelle

Lennex did a benefit concert in Blacksburg, VA and had me hooked - and since I bought this album, it has not left my car's CD player.

  • The best I've seen ever!!!
    author: Dave

Their live performance is unmatched, ten times better than anything popular on MTV. The mad ass trumpet man "Phil" with skills, and a base player that brings back the "Flea" in me.

  • Love Lennex
    author: Lisa

This CD is incredible! My son and I caught them at Merriweather and had to have the CD. A welcome change from some of the other new music these days, and nice to see local boys making it big. My son teases me because I love Phil's voice. Lennex is on the way UP!

  • Still listening to it!
    author: Ellis Tinsley

I got this CD a year ago when my band Aphile opened up for them in OC. A year later, I'm still addicted to it. Chilled out and rockin' at the same time... what a beautiful combination!

  • This cd rocks.I recommend it to anyone.
    author: Krista
