Lei Qiang performs instrumental pieces on the erhu. A two-stringed violin-like instrument, with the shaanxi provincial song and dance troup. This is a collect of 19 traditional Chinese compositions captures the erhu's expressive mystical sound.

Born in 1960 in Shaanxi province in the People's Republic of China.
Lei began to play the erhu in 1975. From 1978 to 1982, Lei studied at the prestigious Xian Conservatory of Music.

From 1982 to 1993, Mr. Lei toured Beijing, Shanghai and all the other major Chinese cities with the Shaanxi Provincial Song and Dance Troupe continuing his studies under Yu Feng Yang, Wu Tong and Guan Min.


Lei Qiang currently performs with the Cirque du Soleil Orchestra in Las Vegas in a show called "O".

    I first heard of Lei Qiang on Putumayo's "Music From The Tealands" compilation. I was impressed by what I heard so I bought this album. I must say every single track is good. Pure traditional Chinese music. Nothing tacky here.
