(About MP3 downloads at CD Baby)

Female lead guitarist rips through red hot blues rock. Think Stevie Ray Vaughan meets Bonnie Raitt.

notes

Lead guitarist/vocalist Laurie Morvan is featured in a 2 page, full color article in the Oct. 2007 issue of Guitar Player magazine.

Laurie is also featured in a beautiful, full color, full page article in the Oct. 2007 issue of Vintage Guitar magazine.

Also, the Blues Foundation just announced that the 2007 release from the Laurie Morvan Band, Cures What Ails Ya, is now a Top 5 FINALIST for "Best Self-Produced CD". The winner will be announced during the live band finals of the International Blues Challenge held in Memphis, TN, 1/31/08 - 2/2/08. The Laurie Morvan Band has also advanced to the semi-finals of the live band competition as well.

"Stevie Ray Vaughan’s muscular “Tightrope” serves as a vehicle for her blazing technique. Several originals, as well, demonstrate the powerful drive that makes Morvan stand out. She lights up the room, and then blows out the windows and doors. " (Southland Blues, February 2006)

"This band is hotter than a sailor on shore leave...lord have mercy this lady can not only play guitar, she can belt out a tune!!! 'Big Love' has growling vocals and big guitar, but it also has a smokin band backing it all up. 'Hold On To You' is a funky tune with some Robin Trower inspired guitar playing. I found myself on the 3rd listen concentrating on the bass guitar and being blown out of the water...Pat Morvan plays amazing bass guitar and when you buy this cd focus on his bass playing after you have listened to the songs a couple of times. Incredible!" (Sweet Blue Onion, May 2005)

"The Laurie Morvan Band...on Find My Way Home...with a connection to Stevie Ray Vaughan...Morvan handles all guitar parts... aggressive fretwork..." (Blues Review Magazine, Dec/Jan 2005)

"She's one of a kind. A kind that gives all blues lovers hope for the future. I don't know if any Scandinavian booking agents read these feedbacks, but please: Get this band to our side of the Atlantic! It should be considered a crime keeping them in the U.S. I wanna experience them live!" ((Nye Radio Larvik, Norvway)

"Stevie Ray Vaughan...the next generation is moving in. The only way to appreciate this CD is to TURN IT UP LOUD AND LET IT ROCK YOU!" (QBN FM 96.7, Australia, Dec. 8, 2005)

"Great guitar work with powerful soulful vocal work. This lady can wail. You go girl!" (HBN Radio, Pennsylvania, Dec. 2005)

"...powerful guitar playing and great singing with a great back up band...you owe it to yourself to check out the Laurie Morvan Band." (KBOV 1230 AM, California, Jan. 2006)

Laurie Morvan confidently leads her band through a dynamic range of red hot blues rockers to contemplative, acoustic ballads. Her crowd-igniting guitar playing asserts itself as the driving force of the album, setting the rhythmic mood of each composition and culminating in fluid, melodic solos. While deeply anchored in the blues rock genre, the 8 original and 3 cover songs are textured with everything from lush three part harmonies to flute and violin. Laurie's compelling personality is revealed through her diverse songwriting, infusing the album with equal parts down home humility and blues rockin’ swagger.

The album was also produced by Morvan who fearlessly pushes her talented band to vault it's way over the eclectic terrain demanded by her songwriting. This tightly knit group dances gracefully between the playful, upbeat blues of Big Love and I Can't Get Enough to the deep down groove of Hold On To You, then seemlessly switches gears to the introspective, acoustic finesse of the title cut, Find My Way Home. This is a mature album from a woman who has lived just enough of life to understand what it means to howl at the moon in triumph as well as cry alone in the night in despair.

Many of you know the band by its former name: Backroad Shack. In May of 2004, with the release of this album they changed their name to The Laurie Morvan Band. If you like this new album please check out their first album, called Backroad Shack: Out Of The Woods, which is also available here at CD Baby.

The band's official website is at: www.lauriemorvan.com. You can sign up on the e-mailing list, check out the fan page, post your comments on our guestbook, check out photos and get other band news.

Thank you for shopping at CD Baby and for choosing to hang out with The Laurie Morvan Band for a few minutes. We hope you enjoy the album...now turn it up and play it loud!

I'm Stephanie Hopson's (photographer at the Coach House) friend. Thank you so much for the tics and CD - I've played it daily and have raved to many about your performance. As a singer myself, you're inspirational in your musical precision and interesting lyrics. Hope to see you play again soon.

  • Find My Way Home is a must listen to CD

Laurie Morvan has been compared to many guitarists. Sometimes we just need to wipe those comparisons from our memory banks, close our eyes and listen to who's fingers are really moving up and down the fret board and holding the pick. Ladies and Gentlemen that would be Laurie Morvan! Guitarist, Singer, and Songwriter! Laurie and her great back up band hit the ground running with Big Love, finishing the CD up with the cover tune Let Me Love You Baby. Everything in between is like butter! Make any comparisons you want to about Laurie Morvan. The truth is...Laurie Morvan is her OWN, and she throws it down like Laurie Morvan! Do yourself a favor and get yourself a copy of FIND MY WAY HOME, put it in your player, sit back, close your eyes and take the journey! YOU will not be sorry!
