About Lauren:
Lauren fell in love with Rock music young, learning guitar at thirteen. Within just twenty-four hours of striking her first power chord, she began writing songs. Now, after hundreds of original songs, several awards, and countless performances, Lauren brings us her debut album, What Makes An Angel. The powerful album features all original music, ranging from industrial anthems to intimate piano-based ballads, and even offers a live performance at Cambridge's historic Folk venue, Club Passim. Singles including "Show To Me" and "Angel" fill slots on college radio playlists and are climbing internet radio charts.
Appearing frequently with her band in Boston and New York, Lauren's passionate concerts capture the hearts of her audiences everywhere. She has played across the east coast and at legendary stages such like CBGB's and the Bitter End. "I want to make my audience feel everything I'm feeling," she says, "all of the joy, love and outrage. To create real art, and of course to rock out!"
In addition to her work as a performer, Lauren regularly books concerts for her organization, EME Productions to benefit various philanthropic causes. She is also featured on Project: Think Different's social activism album empowerment. More updates about Lauren's shows and benefits will be posted regularly on www.LaurenFlaherty.com and on myspace.com/LaurenFlaherty.
Press Highlights:
"4 OUT OF 4 STARS... Boston's Lauren Flaherty veers more toward rock music on her powerful debut WHAT MAKES AN ANGEL. A florid vocalist she burns rubber on the driving "Show To Me", slows everything down nicely for the gorgeous piano ballad "Slowly", a performance that won critical acclaim from Billboard Magazine, then turns to modern folk with a live acoustic version of the title song. A neat album that's well worth seeking out."-Maverick Magazine (UK)
"A Powerful Singer"- South Boston Online
"Rock and roll vixen Lauren Flaherty exudes a sassy confidence on her new 10 song album "What Makes An Angel". She's more reminiscent of Pat Benatar than Sheryl Crow as she rocks loud and proud. She's equally capable of getting low and sultry too, making her a versatile tour de force." -Metronome Magazine
"A lovely voice"- The Noise
"Angel On High: Boston Native Lauren Flaherty is influenced by a range of female musicians, from Rock divas such as Shirley Manson and Hole's Courtney Love to melodic piano peddlers such as Tori Amos. Flaherty's first album, "What Makes An Angel", shows this range with a mix of guitar-driven songs and slow tracks, including the single "Slowly" and the sultry rock song "Some Man's Girl"... Tonight Flaherty celebrates her CD release with a free performance at the Virgin Megastore"- Boston Globe Sidekick (cover)
"Lovely, powerful female vocals"- Scottish DJ Ewan Spence
"Good music at a great price at Felt"
It's not every night you get to listen to a night of great music for just a $5 cover. But this Thursday is special. That's when Felt True Music Thursdays will host an exciting night of female-fronted bands. This one-night-only concert features three eclectic hours of rock, pop and jazz from local bands Fugitive Kind (who will be celebrating the release of their album Give In), the Maria McNeil Group and the Lauren Flaherty Band..."- Boston Now
"This Berklee School of Music grad has an intricate yet involving songwriting style that is winning her fans and followers."-BMI.com (highlighted for performing in their Songwriters-In-Residence Series)
"Lauren Flaherty has a strong voice and makes powerful music on her debut. The title song sees her set angelic vocals against a rockin' backdrop. She clearly has the talent to write strong songs. "Slowly" sees Flaherty singing a lovely song to a piano backing, she can do soft songs as well as tough ones. "Celebrate" rocks out pretty hard without Flaherty wailing or screaming, she holds her ground with quiet determination. "Across the Sea" has an almost industrial bent and is brilliant. Lauren Flaherty has made a neat debut."- Swedish Music Journalist Anna Maria Stjarnell (from CollectedSounds.com)
"I was happy to hear the first track "It's For Life" have so much energy, and it was still going through the entire disk. The energy is from the slight undertones of synth and industrial elements... a more fresh sound that's not so mainstream. Not to say that all the tracks are heavy, she has a few that are nice and slow, very relaxing to listen to because of her beautiful voice. Some of the tracks start out sort of mellow but then just build up and up until you get a full fledged rock song for the last few minutes of the song. This CD being so strong, and powerful, it's worth a listen."
