notes

Laughing Colors began a few years ago as a band with excellent musicians who all pretty much grew up together in the Baltimore/Annapolis area.

Corey Hall and Dan Welsh went to Junior High together and met Dave Tieff in High School.

After that, Corey went to guitar school at GIT in Hollywood, where he received a 4.0, Dan played in a local band and Dave Tieff received a .20, although that was on a breathalyzer (he would get sober in 1994).

They were friends but didn't form the band until a few years later.

After recording their first CD "What's So Funny", the band had a falling out with there original drummer and began looking for a replacement.

Annapolis legend Greg Phillips joined the band temporarily but told the band about a student of his--young Will Dorsey Jr.--the missing piece of the puzzle.

The band quickly recorded their 2nd CD "Depth".

It was received well and Baltimore's WIYY, 98 Rock added "Solution" to its regular rotation.

After acquiring Paul Manna as their manager, the band recorded a live show at the now extinct, but legendary Hammerjacks in Balt.

They would make it into an album, and they released "11-15" in the spring of 97 (called 11-15 because it was recorded the previous Nov 15th).

Their live show, which is the focus of the band, was finally represented on CD--and the CD release party at Bohagers in Baltimore sold out.

The band was starting to draw crowds all over the mid-Atlantic,and their fan base was spreading rapidly.

In Spring of 98, the band felt it was time to get back into the studio and record the bounty of new songs they'd been working on.

For the fourth time, they would head to Wall of Sound studio with the help of Mitch Allen and their live sound man Ryan Beck and record "The Pattern Seed".

This was, by far, the most critically acclaimed of their releases and has brought them to the present.

In summer of 99, they recorded two live acoustic shows at the Recher theatre in Towson and hope to release that in the new year as another live album.

The band feels at home in front of their raucous crowd which has become as much a part of the show as the band is,and steadily growing the last couple of years.

They played The 1999 HFStival after joining Fowl Records and Burgess World Mgmt--and continue to gain strength and popularity in the Mid-Atlantic.

The band has a sense of constant optimism and 2000 promises to be yet another year of growth.

  • Captures the live shows so well!

I am pleased to hear the latest release! As a big fan in Boston (originally from NoVA) I am always happy to hear new music - I miss the live shows soooo much! This band rocks live - so much energy, power and so much fun. This album captures that spirit and talent. The songwriting is excellent as always. Highly recommend this one. "Depth" is still my favorite - check it out too.
