notes
"In A Wyrd Place" will introduce you to eclectic singer- songwriter Chris Laubis and the wyrd world around him. Chris is a native New Yorker who has become a part of the growing musical thread that runs through New York's Hudson Valley Region.
This collection of thirteen wistful tracks brings Chris and his band together with some good friends at Millbrook Sound Studios to create a musical mosaic creatively produced by John Valenti.
Wyrd; meaning fateful, unearthly or foreboding, is an appropriate description of this disc which features 11 original compositions and 2 magical cover songs.
A variety of organic instruments compliment the acoustic-based arrangements, seamlessly tying the tracks together.
Special appearances are made throughout the record by friends and supporters such as Richie Scarlet (Mountain) Frank Carillo (John Hammond, Peter Frampton), and Eddie Seville (Steel Rodeo) .
Lending his talents to the final mixing and mastering sessions was Paul Orofino whose extensive list of credits include Blue Oyster Cult, Ahmad Jamal and Golden Earring just to name a few.
Here's what the critics say...
"Nice Imagery in the lyics. Caught our eyes and our ears right away" -- TAXI
"Echoes of Led Zeppelin, Mountain and even Bon Jovi sprinkled liberally throughout... There is a progressive organic approach to some of the material, with a lovely pastoral shade" -- Whisperin and Hollerin, UK
"An amalgamation of heavy rock shapes and folk rock stylings... The opening 'God is My Girlfriend' opens with acoustic strums with mannered rock vocal and vague prog guitars huddle in the background before taking the lead ...Covers of 'Hurdy Gurdy Man' and '20th Century Boy' sound like they've escaped from the 70's" -- Americana-uk.com
