Pioneering the sweet sounds of Post-Retro Rock and Roll. The songs you've never heard before but you've known for your whole lives. Strong lyrics, massive hooks and beats to move those feets.

notes

A lot is going on here in the land of Post-Retro pioneers Latham, most notably the release of our new CD, Sophomore.

With a humorous philosophy on the often bleak state of the world today, Latham manages to maintain a positive outlook for the future while continually questioning the basic ideas of life.

Two years in the making Sophomore is a collection of 11 tracks that pioneer the art of "Post-Retro Rock and Roll.” Selected from a menu of 50 the disc is an eclectic mix of rock, pop, ballads and jam that explores relationships with women, god, death, the working masses, adolescence and the city of angels, all written since founder/songwriter Mark Latham transplanted himself from Boston to Los Angeles.

Sophomore is already receiving praise, evidenced by the Blind Judge “Rock Artist of the Year” honors at the 2006-07 L.A. Music Awards. Also nominated for “Best Rock Record” and receiving an Honorable Mention “Best Rock Vocalist” for singer/songwriter Mark Latham, the independently released CD is now available right here or at our website! You can also download the tracks at www.burnlounge.com/latham or at www.mpsace.com/lathamrocks. We’ll be on ITunes real soon as well as some CD retailers.

“Mark sounds like he is already a famous veteran rock star.” -- Gods of Music

“…the John Mayer metts Matchbox 20 style to make the girls sway and the guys pay.” – 3:16 Productions

“When Latham rocks, it’s growling, sweaty, grinding rock. He plays sultry erotic funk. He does ballads in episodes of floating, psychedelic dreams with gorgeous, ethereal harmonies. He’s got the goods to justify that swagger. …a mix of pure musical energy.” – Indie-Music.com

Instead of kicking off this collection of songs in the playground or school yard of years past, Sophomore puts things in high gear and the listener is transported back to a familiar scene: in a revealing little dress and drunk at another school dance. Locked in a hot embrace with her date, daddy's little girl isn't a freshman anymore and is about to prove it to the world. Lift is a wonderful ballad that will melt any young lass looking for a spiritual lover/partner. And it takes off from there. The only advice I can offer is don't be in such a hurry to grow up, but with graduation comes, graduation parties and who knows what kind of mischief Latham has in store for us!

  • Sophmore is in no slump, instead it has the confidence of a non-freshman.

From the moment you put this disk into your machine you'll instantly be transported into Latham's world. From the loving melodies of Lift and the playful banter of Baby Girl. It's obvious that this man has fallen in and out of love and loves the females of the world. The humor of Glass Joe takes you back to the arcades of the 80's while still being a triumphant, Rocky Balboa ballad. Put Your Boots On ends up being the true gem of this collection as any man who's spent countless hours waiting for his partner to get ready can relate. I liked this record and recommend it to anyone who likes girly music.
