notes

Late Tuesday
est. February, 2000

LATE TUESDAY combines richly interwoven harmonies over acoustic and electric guitars, piano, and bass/drums to create an original folk-pop sound.
Tara {guitar ~ piano ~ vocals}
Dana {piano ~ guitar ~ vocals}
Jocelyn {guitars ~ djembe ~ tin whistle ~ hammered dulcimer ~ vocals}
make up the all-female band LATE TUESDAY, which sits at the forefront of the Bellingham and Northwest Washington music scene. They claim a variety of influences which include: Lisa Loeb, Faith Hill, Jars of Clay, Jennifer Knapp, Rich Mullins, Chantal Kreviazuk, Fiona Apple, and Sixpence None the Richer.
Together since February 2000, the band originated from an independent solo album released by Tara in May of 1999.

The band {ages 22-25} writes original music both individually and collectively. By taking turns on lead vocals and using multiple instruments, they are becoming widely known for their creative sound. The band plays has played numerous venues around Washington, Oregon, and also a mini-tour in Utah. From packed self-produced shows in Bellingham, to the Wild Buffalo House of Music, to The Tractor or the Paradox in Seattle - Late Tuesday's fans always pack into a venue no matter where the location.

All of the members attended Western Washington University in Bellingham. Tara graduated with a degree in vocal performance in 1998, and Dana and Jocelyn developed their musical talents there while graduating in 2001.

In November of 2000, LATE TUESDAY began recording their self-titled debut album, which was independently released in April of 2001 (and has since sold over 2000 copies with only local distribution). The creative songwriting in this album is evidenced in the first track "Ordinary" where the band's name is also referenced:

"Just another day ~ breathing out and breathing in ~ put on the same old jacket ~ step out the door ~ No birds are singing ~ except the ones inside your head..."
"...just another day ~ holding the hand of one you've loved for thirty years ~ Late Tuesday or Thursday afternoons ~ blurring together like watercolor lines..."

In combining the familiar elements of modern music {guitars ~ pianos ~ harmonies ~ bass/drums}, LATE TUESDAY's unique sound suggests that there are new and refreshing things to be discovered in ordinary life ~ and in "ordinary" music.

    I heard a track from this CD a while ago and liked it so much that I decided to buy it for myself. All the songs are great. It is the type of music which never gets old, no matter how many times you listen to it. I am looking forward to their new album.

  • An awesome CD

    Here's a band that deserves to be heard nationally. I was astonished at the quality of this CD: songwriting, production, performances, the whole package. These women are incredibly talented. Their soaring vocal harmonies are absolutely gorgeous, and they are deft instrumentalists as well, creating a variety of folk and rock textures for their music. Couple all this with the positive, uplifting message of their songs and you have a real winner. I've been playing this CD over and over and I like it more each time I hear it. It is so much better than 90% of what's available from the major labels. You owe it to yourself to buy this album!

  • This album had a marathon in my cd player

    Its true! These girls have some great feel-good music going here. This album makes me want to get up in morning on those not so motivated days. Their voices are beautiful, and their instrumental abilities amazing, not to mention their knack for songwriting. Even now, a year after I first bought the cd I still love to pop it in the player! Its a keeper!

    "You guys have such passion in your music and it is really refreshing to hear, in a day and age where people hold image above talent I am glad to see people still producing music that actually is something more than just meaningless fluff." - Alex from Canada

    I am studying in France and I was at a friends house who had this cd playing. I asked who they were because they were amazing. She said they were Late Tuesday and were friends of hers. Well, now she's got me any all my roommates listening to them. When I get back to the states I'm buying all my friends a cd because they just make you feel good when you're in a bad mood. I've been listening to her cd non-stop for a month now and she told me they had a website so I had to find it and write something.
