Soulful roots rock and alt-country gem.

notes

A mounful, country-tinged aching pervades much of Last Train Home's second album. You can hear it even when the band kicks things into high gear, as it does on such tracks as Eric Brace's own "Louisiana" and Buck Owens' "Heartbreak Mountain". Most of the album, though, unfolds unhurriedly, highlighting the richly layered texture of the band's country-rock and the soulful melancholy at the heart of their songs and in the voice of singer-guitarist Eric Brace.

  • What a band
    author: Fred A

I love this band. I bought the compilation album on recommendation and then Last Good Kiss, partly becuase I loved Travelogue, partly because I loved the single (probably one of my favourite all time songs but mostly because I love Eric Brace's voice and his songs. So I bought the lost (including Holiday Limited). True North is a very fine album, not a medoicre track on it and some blinding songs - All Eyes Go, Louisiana, the title track. Even the less serious songs are excellent - Doughnut Girl is a favourite. Difficult to categorise but pretty damn good at every style they attempt. Great songs, great musicianship, Last Train Home are my favourite band of the moment.
